TINY WEEP FROM RADIATOR CAP
Discussion
Hello all.
I checked the coolant yesterday (2000 996) and couldn't see through the tank to see the level as it was in a dark garage, so I removed the header tank cap and ended up putting in a cupful of 50/50 coolant mix to get the level to MAX.
I tightened the cap back up, but not as tight as before (it needed a monumental effort to remove it!!!)
Just been out for blast, and the car is running fine, but the temperature gauge ran a little higher than usual just for a couple of minutes (around 90 degrees) and then went back to the usual 80+ a bit degrees again (i.e. straight up at 12 o-clock)where it then stayed.
I popped the engine cover and can see a tiny tiny tiny weep from the seal round the header tank cap and a tiny amount of dry residue on one part of the cap where the weep is (obviously residue from where the tiny weep is.)
Am I right in thinking these things are related (i.e the system is not pressurising fully when I am driving hard?)
Do I just need to let some airlock out using the "jobby" on the top of the header tank when the engine is cold, or was the seal around the cap damaged by being on so tight meaning I should get a new cap (only about a tenner I think?)
Anyone else ever had this?
Thanks for the help.
