Please could you explain some more so those of us not in the trade can understand why we'd be "laughed out of the showroom"?

The reason you would be laughed out of the showroom is both of those publications are totally inacurate on cars such as 911s........if you were to attend a car auction holding a Parkers Guide the auctioneer would see this as an invitation and an advertisment to take advantage of a private customer in the jungle that is a car auction.........far better to print off the internet some "real world" cars that are for sale at cheaper prices that are comparable, and use those as a bargaining tool. There's a whole load of b0llocks talked on both sides of this debate.
My car books at £33k trade in price in Parkers, yet I get offered £6k less as a trade in becuase "they're not making book..." So then I look at the car I want to buy in the same showroom, and compare the retail screen price with Parkers, and oh SURPRISE the retail price of that car is £500 MORE than Parkers....
I think I'll stick with what I have got thanks.
Porkers are very simple to price at the trade value.
If looking to sell to an OPC, find the same model year at a retail price and subtract £8k. If it's a 996TT, subtract £10K; if the dealer already has a couple, subtract £12k.
As for a specialist: subtract £6k from a similar model with similar mileage.
Low mileage cars may be an exception, but only about £1k for trade-in.
Glasses guide is what the trade use, not Parkers. Still, you'll get some saying they don't look in glasses either, certainly that is what an OPC will say. For the older cars, it matters less and less.
You can, however, judge your depreciation hit by using glasses. I was looking at a 996TT at OPC Reading. The cars price was £66k in the window, but they would sell it to me for £64k. It was booking in glasses at £51k. That was enough to tell me that I was looking at a potentially huge hit when I trade-in. The rest of the trade will always go to glasses for an instant price.
