996 nightmare....

So, less that 1000 miles into my 911 adventure, a message flashes up while in a car park in Canary Wharf - "Check engine...drive to workshop" etc and the emission control warning light started flashing.

*heart sinks*

Anyway, upon returning the light stayed off and I carried on, hoping it was just an anomaly. Car seemed as normal. Took it easy and kept close eye on temperature etc as I know that the light can be the first indication of something serious....

Next day the same message flashed up and after easing the warning light stopped flashing but stayed on.

Then it started miss-firing. No huge loss in power, but a definite "juddering".

Hobbled home staying under 3k revs.

I phoned my local OPC today and they said to call porsche assistance, who to my amazement sent someone to the car within the hour.
Diagnosis - miss-fire in cylinder 2.

Trailer's coming this evening to take my beloved 04 Anniversary model to (hopefully) be fixed. With a bit of luck it'll just be the ignition coils or something simple. I just hope that driving after the initial warning hasn't caused serious damage...

Anyone had anything similar happen? Should i start saving for a new engine????
(It's still under warranty)

This happened to me - needed new coil packs on all 6 cylinders - they were cracked and when I took the car out in the rain the message came up and it felt like the engine had blown. Warranty but bill was around £500.

Next time, the same thing happened and it was an oil pressure sensor this time which was easily fixed too.

I had what sounds like exactly the same issue - it was the ignition coils. I had them all replaced for around £600.

Happened to me the other week, exactly the same problem.....cracked coils. fixed in under an hr.

same happened here... coil pack was cracked... ended up changing all six... very easy job to do... mine cost about 45 euro each.

happend to me too last year, coil packs had not been replaced for like 4 years, replaced all the packs and she is working fine no problems, pretty standard job.

Nice. Busy night apparently.

Anyway, car stored at Police depo til this morning, when hopefully it'll be delivered to Porsche.

Hopefully it'll just be the ignition coils as suggested.

Don't think i mentioned in the first post that the OPC advised using Porsche Assist as the earliest they could look at the car was 19th April (over a week away). However, if the car is brought to their attention by Porsche Assist, they are "forced" to look at it straight away. Apparently it's because PA give you a hire car, so the longer it goes on, the more it costs them. I guess it's always worth calling PA in the first instance if anything goes wrong....

The message says "Drive to dealer" so I wouldn't worry about having driven it, especially as the light then went out and it ran OK.

I've also had 4 changed and its all covered by PA warranty.
