Climate control on a 996

The air con on my 996 doesn't seem to be able to pump out that much cold air. It's definitely working, but seems weak.

Is this usual or does it need looking at?

Mine gets icy cold so I suspect you need a recharge. Can't tell from your profile how old your car is but I have been told that air con should be recharged every 5 years so if it's around that age and has never been done then you should get it checked and charged if required.

Just bought a 2002 Rangie for the wife and according to my indy, Land Rover now recommend every 2 years for air con service

nope but I did, 3 times, twice to get it to pass the OPC warranty (once to check once to fix then recharge) then again 3 weeks later as they problem they originally charged me 350 pounds for was not the problem at all, there was a small rubber seal that had corroded and they tried to charge me for it all over again, I just said to the guy in a understanding way, i had to pay twice to get it through the warranty, and you said it was warranted now under OPC warranty, its in no way fair for me to pay again, and the guy sorted it out for free on the warranty.

Check out Yellow Pages. There are plenty of mobile guys about. Perhaps someone can recommend one that they've used before and got good service. I would think around £70 for a recharge as long as they don't find any problems with the system. They usually do a dye test to check for leaks prior to filling the system.

£350 sounds excessive but I guess that's OPC mark up for you.

I guess your options are:

1). Go to OPC and have them diagnose the situation. The diagnosis will probably incurr a recharge, with dye, which I assume will not be covered by warranty so you get to pay OPC price for that. If they find a problem and it's covered by the warranty you get it fixed for free. You then have to pay for a further recharge.

2). Get a local air con guy to check things out and if he finds a problem get it to the OPC to fix under warranty if covered, then get the local guy to recharge.

Either way you are looking at some cost but I suspect option 2 is cheapest. Have a chat to both and see what you can work out.
