Bought a runaround while looking for the 996TT.

I know this has nothing to do with porsches but there are more solicitor types on this forum so apologies in advance.
I just bought a Golf privately about 2 weeks ago. The car is 3yrs and 1 month old and has done 19k miles.
On sunday, the clutch went and i had it towed back to the VW dealer in Reading by the AA. They have now had a look at it and told me that the flywheel fell apart and smashed up the clutch. The dealer spoke to VAG UK and told me they would pay 70% of the parts and labour as it was a manufacturing defect. They did this without me prompting them to do so.
At this point, it looks like i have to pay £180 towards the new clutch, flywheel and labour etc but i was wondering......
If the fault was caused by a manufacturing defect, why should i have to pay anything???
I am aware the car is 1 month out of warranty and that they dont have to offer me anything under that pretense. But as the car has only done 19k miles and they have admitted the fault was caused by a manufacturing defect.....
What are your thoughts out there ???
Should i pursue 100% costs or settle for the 70% i have been offered?
If i should pursue, how should i go about it???

No wonder it blew up... 
The car is a heap as far as the engine goes. Ive been driving M3's for the las 7 yrs so going from 340bhp to 75bhp is a bit of a mare but i get 450 miles from a 55 litre tank which is the only good thing about it. I even debadged it so people cant see im driving a 1.4.
The biting point on the clutch was very high when i got the car but i didnt think anything of it due to the low milage.
I was obviously wrong.

Bear in mind you are getting new parts to replace your worn 3 year old ones, its technically out of warranty, and for £180 that doesn't sound too bad.
You could try them for more, but if they won't budge, I'd take this offer and move on. How much battling do you want to do over £180... or £100? I think its fair for you to make a contribution.
Also, I'd be grateful they have owned up to the manufacturing fault. Had they not, this could have been more painful.

I'm not even thinking about threatening court or anything that far. I was thinking more along the lines of a stern letter and if they stand firm then so be it. I think a 10 minute letter and a 1st class stamp is worth a possible £180.
There is nothing wrong with the 1.4 VW 75hp engine. I use it all the time jumping between a 964 RS, 968 CS and the Lupo 1.4.
OK so it is in a much lighter car than the golf but there is nothing wrong with the engine. It is fun to drive quickly and within the legal limits.
Maybe you should have considered the power to weight when buying!
Oh I forgot you used to drive a Turbo. ;o)

nope, cant see any bind. car isnt new. car isnt in warranty. you bought privately. youve no idea what the last owner did or didnt do to contribute or exacerbate the problem. VAG are being pretty honourable. do the right thing - smile, say thank you, and give thanks it could have been a lot worse.
