Hi all
I am seriously considering taking the plunge into Porsche ownership. Originally wanted a 911 but am being a bit more realistic now in terms of cost and looking at a Boxster S around W reg.
I've had a trawl through the forums and Parkers but am interested to hear people's experiences on the Boxsters re. servicing costs, whether to buy from a dealer or privately and general advice for a Porsche virgin! I'd also be interested in hearing about common problems such as RMS - how much of an issue is it for example?

Plenty of stuff on the forum about this. There's a very useful supplement with 911PW this month which has pages and pages on buying the Boxster.
In short.
1. Get the OPC warranty
2. Get the OPC warranty
3. See 1 and 2.
You can get the warranty either by buying from OPC, or from an Indy/Private seller - the latter two you need to have the 111 point check done by OPC, and then the warraty is £725 per annum. Well worth it.
Menu servicing pricing from OPCs is available on the Porsche website - reckon on about £600 a year on average plus tyres. Indys are cheaper, but OPC stamps are worth a lot on resale. Suggest if you're on a budget get the menu service done each year at OPC and get a well respected Indy to do brake discs/pads/hoods etc.
Buy the best you can afford.
RMS is overhyped. It's covered by the OPC warranty anyway. See 1 and 2. And 3.

RMS 'overhyped'? Only if the odd £800 quid bill doesn't bother you. As I stated on another thread, a few of my mates experienced RMS failure, and when I crossed-over to the Porsche-side, guess what... mine had it too!
Sure, I'm now learning that it's not a disaster and that it's a fairly straight-forward fix, but bloody hell, come on Stuttgart-people - make your seals... erm... SEAL!
They have a new tool, also, to fit the seal further in.
This is (allegedly) why RMS done by OPCs fixes the issue, and those done elsewhere may not.

PS Mine was done 10k miles ago - dry as a nun's crack since.
