Can anyone recommend a good independant in the Ednburgh area.

It's to get a RMS replacement done.

Cheers.

Brian Miller Motors on Lanark Rd is excellent,I've used him for years. Great photo of Him and Derek Bell in the office!

He works alone, so it's best to book well in advance, as he is usually pretty busy.

Wrong day and he can be grumpy

So true! Especially when you turn up early afternoon for a morning appointment. It's kind of understandable considering his limited space and the amount of people that use him.

He is a wealth of information and a real enthusiast though - I remember picking my car up once, and he was effing and cursing a 993tt that needed major work, when a gorgeous early dark blue 911 pulled in,chatting with the owner his mood changed almost instantly, made me smile

Would recomend Motortune even though he is out in Shotts. Peter is an excellent guy to deal with and will always tell you how it is.

Grumpy is one way to describe Brian Miller, as he cost me over £2k in things he missed in a PPI, none of my Porsches goes anywhere near him.

Whilst on Edinburgh and Porsche experts - anyone had a full alignment done in Scotland ? My 993 is wearing out outside edge of rear tyres and I want to have geometry checked/set. Motortune claim to have the relevant kit - anybody got any experience they can share ? Cheers.

I'd try Tarduff Motors in Linlithgow - the guy deals with Ferraris and suchlike, and has a good reputation.

CLCM is the place to go, just did my 993 a few weeks ago and sorted out the handling.

Contact no. is 0131-458-5559 and address is 11 Bankhead Drive, Sighthill Indus Est, Edinburgh, which is located close to the Gyle

Cannot recommend highly enough, has a computer controlled laser thing, I like flashing lights and computer displays, used to do all the OPC work until they moved, but still does the difficult ones for the OPC.

Had my 996 done by Willie @ CLCM last week.

I agree with everyone else here, in that he knows what he's doing.

Shed,

How long did they take to do all four wheels. I'm due in Edniburgh soon and wondered if I could drop in and go after a couple of hours?...

CLCM did mine in about 45 mins.

He needs to plan ahead, so book an appointment and you will not be there long.

He sorted the handling on mine no problem, very reasonable on cost too.

Highly reccommended!

Thanks for the feedback Chris, I will be sure to book in advance. Should I ask for anyone in particular?, (maybe staff changes?...)

The guy who owns it is called Willie. He is pretty much a one man band, so no doubt it will be him that answers the phone.

£50 will sort it and that includes a tip.

Good luck.

So I took the advice of this forum and went to Motortune in Shotts to have them fix my car, tapping noise, suspected borescore, I went in asked to speak with Peter to come listen to my car,and discuss with him my findings and solutions, the girl at the desk advised he wont come out and chat.he doesnt do that anymore, hes busy, you will have to book in, I explained the situ to the girl at the desk, I also explained all i had done to the car, service, my own inspection, borescoped it ,photos of cylinders and my findings, she was only interested in booking me in,after waiting 3 weeks, it went in thurs, i got a call next day saying they cant do the repair and let me speak to the guy who inspected it, wasnt Peter? He relayed all I had told the girl right back to me,I explained to the guy I know all this ,its in to be fixed? I went to pick it up today £103.00 just like that for absolutely nothing, I was told the exact same info I had given them, i wasnt happy and said to the girl (the guy was off) I told you all of what was explained to me by the guy, itll be the cylinders thats what I booked it in for "oh we dont do cylinders" was her reply, while taking my payment.Total waste of time. Needless to say I wont be using them anytime soon. If only someone would have come out and spoke to me at the first visit there would be no booking to be made and I would have been told we dont do cylinders and wouldnt feel Robbed.
Conclusion: they only want to take your money for the bookings wether they can fix or not and waste your time on the travelling to drop/pick up.

I've used David Phillips in Edinburgh for years for my 997GTS. Always found him very good and happy to have a chat in advance and discuss whatever work you think needs doing, provide estimates etc.....
