Starting from an initiative for the GB 993 Register, I have arranged a 'Runway Blast' at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, the former air base south of Leicester, for Feb 15th. One of the longest runways in Europe, you can get top speed or bloody close!

Not an official club event, you understand, just a group of enthusiasts clubbing together to hire the facility for the day. As the owners are old friends, a good rate has been obtained, but we need around 30 cars to make it viable, ie keep the cost around £100 each. We have another week or so to confirm the hire.

Format is two cars down the runway together into top speed traps either side - for once you'll want your speed measured by a professional! So far we have 993 Turbo S, 944 Turbo, 964RS vying for VMAX honours. And we can look at a Vulcan V-Bomber being restored to flying condition between runs! Or go to the pub for lunch. The perimeter track is quite decent fun, too, but we can't run it like a track day, because of the limit of two on the runway.

Any interested parties please contact me on private email mauricepiper@hotmail.com for further details.

Cheers, Maurice

Daz fancy a passenger? I've still never been over 180mph and I feel its my duty to take any opportuniy to do so...

Hope Jeremyc is up for this, as despite my love of Pork his Cerby would be rather rapid up a bleeding long runway ................

edited to add- well the cerby might be a bit nippy, but I think for real speed bluesatin in his Ultima has got the potential to get within a whisker of 200 on the runway if he is up for it........

I was just about to check whether everyone would be happy to have the Blackpool Pleasure Bitch along....

I could be up for it if the day is open to all.

Iguana, Jeremy

If you two are up for it then count me in. Let me know if you're going to do it. I won't book up or send the cheque off if no else I know is going.

I am now sending you a copy of an email I received from Maurice (Maurice I trust this is OK, I know these people).

DAZ

Bluesatin, G Man - where are you?

Oh forgot to add.

Iguana. No problem with you having the passenger seat but can you meet me there. With a 10am kick off, I think the quickest route for me doesn't pass anywhere near your house.

I don't think Bluesatin will get to 200mph because of his gearing. I bet Guy is the quickest to 160-170 though

I have driven the Bruntingthorpe straight, and...

1) It is *very* wide

2) The surface is not brilliant

3) You always brake too early, as it is frightening approaching the bank at the end at mega speeds

4) I only managed 140mph, but that was in an E36 M3 in the wet

5) To get the highest speeds, you need a rolling start from the bottom corner - a long hairpin. A standing start will limit the Vmax results.

If it is open to all, and I have some kind of supercar in my possession at the time, and there is a space left, I will pop along.

Otherwise, if it is open to spectators...

Has anyone else emailed Maurice to see if they/their car is OK for the event?

Has anyone sent their £100 off yet? I have not done so yet but if other PHers can confirm their attendance I will do so.

DAZ

Jeremy C - Have you emailed Maurice to see if your 420bhp cerbera being OK for the event? ie it's not only a Porsche day.

EDITED to say I have just emailed Maurice to see if it is a Porsche only event.

Craig.

Have you emailed Maurice and confirmed you attendance to him? prior to sending your cheque. ie it's not a porsche only day.

I am currently awaiting a reply from Maurice about the issue of non Porkers so that Jeremy C (Cerbera) can get his cheque book out.

As you may be aware we need to pay Maurice in advance.

cheers
