944 Wishbone balljoints

I've been advised to get one of the wishbones changed on my 86 Lux, as the balljoint is worn. Done searches on this forum but can't find anything.
Up until a few days ago I thought the only option was to replace the complete wishbone at horrendous cost, but I've noticed that design911 do a rebuild kit for about £40.
Has anyone tried this option and was it a success?

If you are planning to take the car on track then change it.

Are you saying that it could be ok for quite a while and only high stresses which are put through the suspension on the track are likely to make it significantly worse.
I have to say I have not noticed anything which would make me think that it was worn, so it was quite a surprise when my mechanic (ex Porsche) told me.

If you are planning to track the car and your choices are fix or replace then i'd replace it, I have heard of "fixed" balljoints failing on track. If its worn and you are tracking it then it might be worth changing it as a precaution. I'd try and get one from the states as the UK ones are well expensive!!
Ask your mechanic to show you how bad it is and then make a choice, mine felt fine on teh road and bit weird on track when i was shown the amount of movement in the ball joint I called Paragon in the USA and got a pair shipped.

I repired mine with a kit from Type 911 last year & it was fiddly but
OK. Felt great once done. They are a rubbish design which is why they fail,
German engineering NOT! However 8K miles later mine is nearly as slack as when
I did it. However this wishbone was in an accident so maybe the socket is knackered.
I've got 2 spare wishbones here & I'm going to either
send them to Porschapart who do exchanges at £ 180ish with 2 year warranty
or a company in Scotland whose details I can't find at the mo who completely
recondition them.....
