Car is a bog stock Mk1 Clubby ( 360bhp ) and given that the engine is based on the GT1 ( same stroke & titanium rods ) which has been proven to rev to 10,000rpm I plan to do the following;

1, Full SuperSprint GT3 Twin High Flow Exhaust System (Manifolds Back)
2, Performance chip with increased rev range to 9,000RPM (TBA )
3, GT3RS intake system.

If this dose not yield 400+bhp then I may look to a 2.9 piston & liner kit.

The car clearly has power available beyond the 7,200 limiter and given its pedigree I believe is unlikely to suffer dramatically if done properly.
Has anyone on here done anything similar ??

Your thoughts or links to previous posts would be appreciated.

I'd strongly recommend a chat with either Steve Mchale at JZ or Parr before embarking on any engine mods to the GT3.

Cheers -

You might want to talk to JZM regarding their Manthey tuning options.

I believe they offer 400bhp, 410bhp and 440bhp options for the GT3.

Thanks Jay, great info, the Manthey link confirms that there is power above 400 in the GT3

I had the Manthey K400 engine upgrade fitted to my Mk1 18K miles ago by JZM the car has not missed a beat since & completed around 25 trackdays: it went on the dyno at Weltmiester last week after having new rads fitted, read out was 415.5 bhp & just under 330 lbft torque. Its a bench mark dyno for lots of GT3's standard Mk2's make around 385-397bhp & around 290lbft torque, RS's 400-415 around 300lbft torque, Mk1's have not made the 360bhp qouted best was 355bhp so its a stonking upgrade for around £6K. Can't see the point in breaking into the engine unless it needs a rebuild when an exhaust, chip & induction give such results,,,,,,,,,

Russell, "Can't see the point in breaking into the engine unless it needs a rebuild when an exhaust, chip & induction give such results,,,,,,,,,"

Question answered.
Thanks to all

Hope to be joining you on track soon!

My GT3 RS is booked into PARR tomorrow for a remap and air filter.

It will be dynoed before and after.

I think its the best place to start since there does appear to be some serious scope for extra power by simply remapping and changing the exhaust system/cats.

I'll post up the results tomorrow.

Will be very interested to see the results.

Going by the 911 world article the steps Porsche took to get 415 out the 997 GT3 were : new pistons, lightened crank, flowed head (probably have this already in the RS), variable intake changes, variable exhaust. Manthey seem to do a fair bit with their kits too (or at least the price suggests they do )

Which leaves me a little skeptical that a simple chip and filter can do much. Will be happy to eat my words if the dyno shows anything although not sure I'm brave enough to risk my warranty even if you get 500bhp!

You got all that power from just a filter+exhaust+map?

Manthey is best tuner of normally aspirated Porsche's, they have the best mapper in the buisness,,, Mine hasn't got the airflow meter anymore it works on throttle position & gas flow through the exhaust,,,,,,,

Russell - having been passengered in your car around Oulton , I can testify that your '3 is a wicked car . Awesome mid range/top end and noise! But I must admit that if it is just a remap, exhaust and filter, £6k is heck of a lot of money for that... but you can't argue with the results!

I think the PARR option has to be the best value.

New air filter
ECU remap
Dyno before and after
New exhaust and 100 cell cats
New carbon rear bumper to accomodate the centre exahust system
Saves approx 30-35kgs
Approx +25bhp

Cost £4995+VAT

Do you not mean either on engine revs (through the crank sensor, as in Alpha-N) or via a MAP sensor, which works on inlet manifold pressure? Hows is the exhaust flow measured? Or do you mean wide band closed loop lambda feedback?

The secret is out now Russ, best power/weight going !!!

Don't tell everyone about the Manthey stuff, we need 'some' advantage, to make
up for our driving defficiences

Don't they buy in the tuning expertise from outside? RSTuning the supplier perhaps?

I've driven both Manthey and Parr conversions. They are both very good and give a noticable gain in power with good tractability. If you are going to have the engine modded, you should consider new springs, shockers and floating discs as well. In terms of overall speed on the circuit, the suspension and braking mods will give you more performance but as a package of both engine and suspesion you will have a quantum leap forward. Russell's Manthey MK1 and Gary Bullen's Parr MK1 have both been developed to a point where they are on the pace of a GT3RS. Lovely cars to drive..

A 25bhp increase can be got just by upping the rev limit, a bit.

Show me an corresponding increase in torque and I would be interested.

But Nervy, I heard a rumour that you're resetting (losing?) Gary's Parr setup for road settings again?
