Why dont porsche drivers...

Hi all

In my five months of Porsche 911 heaven only one person has returned a smile or light flash etc.

Is this normal?? or just me???

Seems so, very few wave back.

One bloke looked horrified when I gave him the thumbs up.

In my S2000 you couldnt stop other drivers saying hello but in the proker nada.

I've been experimenting this past few weeks and I'm reckoning I'm getting 50% returns. Including someone in a boxster on Walton Bridge this morning.

Yep, my S2000 was always well received.

Can't get over the sheer hate for the Porker, thought my BM was bad.

yeah I get return waves from most other 911's round here, but the boxters have never waved back i dont think, starting to give up on them.

I think its becuase they're not being driven by enthiusiasts but instead by people who can just afford to get one and want one . . . .

Yes I have come across this too, although having met the stealers at the opc really I cant blame them.

It seems you need to be a special type of person to own a Porsche (or so the service person made me feel) and I clearly wasnt one of them!!! :-)

Hmm... I was thinking about this the other day. When I wave at other older Porsche drivers, I always get a response.. a big grin at the least. The newer 996 / boxter folk usualy look at me in discust or complete apathy though.

If it's comradeship your after,get a VW camper.A pal of mine has one and he is always complaining of excess attention from other VW'bers.Although the motor is in the correct end of the vehicle,I would rather drive a proper car and have no mates than be everyones buddy and drive round in a turd!Joking aside,I think the problem is that Porsche and the media have bigged the 911 up so much over the years,owners often feel that they too are 'better than the average driver' and by that reasoning,showing out even to other 911 drivers,is beneath them.Personally, the only reason I don't wave to other 911's is because I am paying 110% of my attention to the job in hand (handling my 911 like no 'normal'driver would be able to replicate).

That's interesting, I waved at an 'older' fella the other morning in a 996. The look I received is probably the one he'd give if he'd just caught someone with his daughter.

Just unlucky I guess mate. Had my Porsche 1 year and I can only remember one time when I didn't get a wave back.

Doesn't matter what model, what age car or driver, always get a wave or flash.

What is it with all this waving nonsense? Don't understand it myself. Seems all a bit string backed driving gloves, pipe and strange facial hair to me.

Do you wave at someone if they have the same shoes, shirt or colour of hair?
