squealing brakes!!
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I've got a 986, 53 plate, and my rear brakes have been squealing a little when I apply light pressure. I've checked the pads and there is plenty of rubber compound left so no metal rubbing against metal. I have not noticed any drop in braking performance.
Is this down to the salt and grit over the last few months - just building up grim between the disc and pad? Anyone had this? And how do I cure this?
thanks

EBC chamfer their pads for this exact reason, the harder the pad the worse it gets unless the leading edge is chamfered!

Your brake pads are of a rubber compound ? !!!! That might explain the noise
But seriously, do you wash the car and leave the brakes wet ? (are the insides of the discs badly corroded ?)do you drive it gently all the time (pads glazed up) or cane it mercilessly ?
Have you recently had pads/discs fitted ? If so were the anti squeal shims replaced or "reused" or perhaps not fitted at all ?
The squeak could be due to any of the above.
Unless you're happy to get your hands dirty there's not a lot you can do other than take it to the usual place you have it serviced /repaired at.

As per 009 chamfer the leading edge of the pad it should stop the noise
The chamfer lasts for only a few serious stops and is good practice for speeding bedding of new pads/discs only.
You could try re-bedding the brakes as the squeal is probably due to a build up of pad material on the discs, caused by a whole host of things.
Assuming you have standard road pads, rebedding should sort it (till the next time!)
