valuation and opinions - 996tt

Hi just looking for a general consensus of the value of this car. Had a few laugh worthy emails from a seller who had the cheek to tell me i couldn't afford to buy the car that i'm looking for!! Anyway the spec was; quote "silver with metropole, 2002 "02", 19k miles, tyres replaced couple of months ago, alloy's refurbed by OPC, FPSH, OPC warranty, the car is fully loaded including, sat, elec seats, s/roof, climate, bose, CD and any other extra available when new." (only extra actually mentioned here is the sat nav so don't know what the rest is, no aerokit or x50 pack so can't have all extras although there is a rather tasteful s badge added after the turbo!)
Maybe i'm well out here with what i think the cars worth but I won't put any values on here as not to bias anybodys opinions, so....

'02 probably has PCM1. PCM2 is better. 
- (the CD mentioned was also an option)Get real guys, bottom book for a grotty 02 996TT is likely near 48k, for a nice low mileage car with good spec. you could get very near £51k by shopping around in the trade!
Why oh why is anyone who isn't desperate for the cash going to go through the hassle of selling their car privately to only achieve trade price!!!!! With the trade, you don't get a fleet of time wasters & tyre kickers or advert costs & you do get peace of mind with a bankers draft in your hand the next day!!! Ok there are some good genuine buyers on PistonHeads..BUT be realistic you should expect to pay around £53k-ish for top notch Porsche warranted 02 996TT privately, saving over the average retail price of £56-59k. Ok there are cheaper cars out there, but phone them & see if they have the history/accidents/condition/are C16 UK cars/right spec etc etc, you will find the majority don't measure up, although I agree there is always the slim chance of a genuine bargain!
996TT's are good news at the moment, the new model is coming out, this has already been factored into trade values & now all the publicity is making people realise that an 02 996TT is 50k cheaper than a new 997TT!!!!
I know this has been debated before, but I do wish certain internet "experts" would stop talking down the value of all Pork & get realistic!

Porkernut,since when has a trade price been anywhere near the private sale price for any car?I had a 3k miles Gt3 mk2 from new that i paid 74k for,the dealer i bought it from bid me 62k for it 4 months old...untracked,garaged and mint.i sold it for 68k privately with 5 close offers...let me think was it worth a private sale?Most cars dumped at dealers are done so coz they are poor cars and cant take the scrutiny of a fussy private buyer.
Some people value some options more than others. I see silver with blue interior and PCM1 as detrimental to a car. But thats my personal taste. Some people will see it as a plus. This is factored into what i have quoted that i would pay for the car. If someone wants that colour combination, they will pay for it if they think its worth it. I dont think many people will pay more or even the same price for a car on a private sale than at an indie dealer due to the lack of comeback. No matter what condition its in, its still a 4 yr old car and who knows whats going to happen to residuals once the 997 TT's are on the road.

KayC, my semi-rant was refering to the "private" valuation for an 02/02 996TT at £46-48k posted at the start of this thread, for a pristine high spec low mileage warranted car...pah!!!
Your findings simply confirm my point. (e.g why sell privately unless you can make substantially more than trade price!!!)

Porkernut i agree with you,everyone wants a low mileage minter for £2.50 and when it goes wrong all the time they are surprised.IMO and the owner and subsequent seller of 60 vehicles in 20 years most cars are badly maintained,driven badly,totally uncared for and due to the fact i am a perfectionist not worth buying at any price..i always spend a lot of time when im buying looking at shite cars(that the owner or even dealer thinks is perfect)Unfortunately there are very few enthusiasts left in the car world and they have become disposable commodoties with most people.(usually finance driven cars)IMo an abused 03, x50,sat nav,low mileage blah blah car is worse to own than a fasitiduously owned 01 car..
Proper 996 TTs, in proper colours and spec are sort after in the trade and will fetch good trade money.private seller have a chance of getting more than trade obviously but its never easy selling £50K + cars privatly........there are buyers out there who see a car advertised at lowish money which they havnt seen and could be anything, cloud their judgement when looking at pristine proper cars.......good thing is the seller can always say no.

It most definitely won't make 50 trade. Try ringing a host of dealers and see what they say...... Go on it's easy.

but come on - you have to be objective
I wouldn't buy this car however cheap it was as I think metropole is awful, but some think it is fine so I gave an estimate based on the market view
if it was savannah it would be £20k but we can all agree on that

Sorry Toby I disagree, had my 0202 car underwritten by the trade one month ago, had two at £51.5k & one at £51k, ok it took a lot of ringing around, with several lower bids (the lowest at £49k).
The joys of private car sales, where the seller usually expects to get full OPC price & the buyer convinces themselves that the car is worth less than the trade will pay!
So, the dealer pays £51k. He does any remedial work (stone chips, tyres, full 111 point check, wheel alignment, service - if due, MOT etc) and puts a warranty on. Lets say he allows £3k for this (lets not forget the slush fund he has to allow for). Then he retails for what - £57/58k maximum......Doesn't really add up to me.
Dealer bid for the car in question IMO would be £47k max. OPC retail would be £57k ish. Independent retail £54k ish. Private £51k ish......
