I just got overtaken in the r turbo on derestricted autobahn

Was doing 275kmh, when i look to my right, and see the I.C.E slowly draw alongside and then continue to accelerate. I nail the throttle but cannot reel it back in. It just keeps thundering along.

Then i come to a corner on the 'bahn, slow for it, (i am now at the end of the train). Corner is over and a nice long straight beckons, full acceleration and i can just keep up. Touching 310kmh, before i catch up with traffic and brake. I.C.E blasts off, leaving the R turbo wallowing in its wake.

What fun, those trains are freaking fast!

Anyone on the train catching sight of your R Turbo keeping up will have done a double take

More importantly how did you stay alive at that speed? We all know that breathing difficulties start just above 70 mph / 130 kph, doesn't cardiac arrest happen around 200 kph? Speed kills.

The part of autobahn we were on runs literally next to the train tracks. On this stretch the train is cruising at 300kmh (!) MAkes Southwest Trains look somewhat like a joke.....

That's incredible, to think I was doing the same with a train on the M1 yesterday which was doing less than half that (although I didn't have such trouble keeping up ).

It was just so funny because, basically i caught movement in the corner of my right eye, looked across, looked back and then did one of those comical double takes. I couldnt believe it, and the train was so close, maybe 30-40m from the car. Only in germany

sounds like the stretch of Motorway linking Frankfurt to Cologne, which runs parallel to the fastest part of the ICE railway line. On other stretches it is doing "just 250kmh"...and making less noise than most British trains standing still at the platform...

There's a stretch of autobahn that parallels the landing approach into Frankfurt airport , the aircraft's normally doing around 160kts (175mph ish) .. and from time to time 'one' can spot , out of the corner of ones eye , some wag , managing to overtake the plane , is that you Adamt !!

It's the same Autobahn that Adam was driving; the A3. When you travel from Würzburg in Cologne direction, you will see planes flying almost parallel to the Autobahn for two kilometers, just ahead of the Frankfurter Kreuz (A5 crosses), Further up, after Limburg, the ICE rails run parallel to the A3 for a long stretch. The rails are on stilts and go through tunnels, but the Autobahn follows every hill
This is the same stretch that Thomas Bscher used to commute on with his McLaren F1

It's a real pity we're speed controlled for the last 15 or so miles on the approach into Frankfurt airport .. It'd be interesting if I could keep 200kts and see what's staying with me on the autobahn!

Two weeks ago a friend raced a Eurostar down the A1 with a Cayman S ; they were about the same speed but the Cayman S was closer to 280 than 300 km/h.

The eurostar will hit 300-305 on the right stretch of track. Had a play with a GPS one day; made Tom Tom go spare because of course the train doesn't follow the road exactly so it was forever trying to decide which road it was on.

Salut, mate. The ICE's speed depends on the rails it is driving on.

The stretch in question is the one between Frankfurt and Köln (Cologne), where red means they drive up to 300km/h.

Sure, but on that straight-lined stretch they "raced" I am pretty sure the ES track is good for 300-plus km/h speeds. Or the Cayman speedo is well pessimistic
