i pod connector

im thinking of having a i pod connector fitted to my 997c2s, anyone had one fitted ?, if so was it worth it and who do you reccomend for the job ?cheers

ive got one, its a dension ice link, cost 100 quid and i fitted it myself in about sixty seconds. this means you should be able to do it quicker

Any experiences of fitting one to a 996tt? Do the track names etc appear on the nav display?

dunno bout the track names, check the dension site. as far as fitting is concerned, it'll be the same, the ice link simply plugs in where the CD changer normally connects. all you'll need is the stereo keys to release the unit from the dash (you can borrow mine if you like) and very tough and bendy arms that are resilient to razor sharp metal to fit it.

seriously, easiest job ever. happy to help if you wish. i changed mine over from the c4 to the gt3 on Saturday and it was done before the kettle was boiled.

I don't think it is possible on later cars - I think the ice link plus only works with CDR-22, nothing later. They've been saying for ages that something will be available 'soon'.
If I'm right, your only option is to use an FM transmitter.

I have the same but with FM modulator and not the cd multichanger connection.

if your handy you should be able to fit yourself, I paid a shop to do it for me, cost 15 quid.

Have you seen these, ten times better than the actual IPOD car connector i had and very cheap. It comes in white and black.

i had a transmitter in my car and found that i nearly crashed on a regular basis as i was always roaming through my ipod and not paying enough attention to big heavy things on the other side of the road. the through-the-stereo route has saved me a lot of being killed to death.

Apparently an iPod connection is coming from Porsche very soon. It will be connected through the MOST bus and NOT FM modulated that will be displayed and activated through the PCM.
Also Denison are about to release this for the MOST bus http://support.dension.com/dension/ic

Halfords offer a hard wire FN unit tuned into a preset, i have the pcm, i guess you have to use controls on the i pod, so how do these things sound ? is there any distortion?, im a bit concerned on letting an halfords fitter near my car doh! anyone had one fitted by them?

the denison ice link fm modulator plugs into the ariel jack on the back of the stereo, hard wired, and is also a pass through for the radio, so overides any FM signal on your pre set signal, unless you ungplug the ipod from the dock.

sound quality is as good as a very good FM signal, does the job fine since my head unit has no multichanger connection and I didnt want to have a non OEM head unit.

just spoke to a chap at the uk dension distributer, tells me the Gateway 500 is the one to have , not available till next month and needs to be proffesionaly fitted, i will have to wait, thanks for the feed back.

yes, thats the one with MOST connection and will give the best quality, although, MP3s are crap quality anyways I dont see the point in having the best digital connection for a 128bit compressed MP3 (thats assuming you dont have 64bit or less which I know alot I grabbed of internet are), yes if it was true CD quality, but not if your just playing MP3's through it, seems a little overkill to me.

Friend of mine has the Nano.... and an £18 i-Trip off ebay... fm transmitter, absolutley faultless...the thing is almost identical to the Nano itself and clips on the back resulting in a double thickness Nano.... essentially can then be aimed at any radio at home or in someone elses car to spit out your entire music collection..

I dind't want an i-Pod until now...

£18 eh! ,cheaper than the gateway even if its not legal , so compressed files are not as true cd then ? will that matter to Led Zep ?

MP3's are not 'crap' quality, as you pointed out the bitrate dictates the quality, personally speaking most of mine are >192kB with most using a VBR of ~320kB.
