GT3 and GT3RS ?

Hey guys, I am new here. Last week I had drove a 996 GT3 CS and I love it. Vert great Porsche!
I love the looks of the 997 GT3 and I am planning to get one next year, so I have a few questions here...

1. What is MK1 and MK2 GT3? The 997 is MK3 GT3?
2. I have heard that the GT3 RS has 3.8L engine and wider body like the C4, anymore info about the RS?
3. Do you think the 997 GT3RS will be a limited edition like the 996 GT3RS?
4. Any colour choice and audio inside the 997 GT3RS?
5. Full roll cage or half roll cage in the 997 GT3RS?
6. Do you think the GT3RS will be much more expensive than the GT3?
7. I never own a Porsche before. Is it expensive to maintain?
8. Good enough to be a daily driver? I don't want to keep fixing the car, like some of the Ferrari's owners.

At first, I plan to buy the GT3 because mostly I will use it on road. However, when I add up the carbon seat etc. I have found the price maybe closer to the GT3RS. And I guess I don't have to add anything for the GT3RS. Plus, the resale value might be higher than the standard GT3.

Any comments?

Thought you'd decided on the Lotus forum to buy an Exige S or maybe even a cup 240 'when one came up in the right colour' ???

The detailed specification of the RS is not yet known and much is speculation.

However, because this uncertainty is preventing customers committing to either a GT3 or RS, the announcement of the RS is being brought forward, possibly coinciding with the UK launch of the GT3 on 3 June.

Both are based on the 996, GT3 MK1 was based on pre-2001 cars and have the "fried-egg" lights at the front and the curvy rear wing at the back. GT3 MK2 is based on the post-2001 996 and has the revised lights at the front and the 'bi-plane' rear wing at the back.
IIRC the MK2 has 21bhp more than the MK1

That's right. However, after I test drive both cars, I have found that the GT3 is much better car. And it is hard for me to switch back to the Exige. The level is just different. Lotus feels like a supercar and the GT3 is a supercar. Plus, I still dislike the 1.8 Toyota engine in that price range for the standard, S and 240r.

I'm from Southampton... I just chipped in as you were asking all about M3 compaired to Exige... now it's GT3s and RS's...

£30K - £90K spread is big... but having owned just about everything and having a bank manager who is sure I need mental help.. it all depends on what you are looking for and what use you want to put it to... which is where the tread went on the Lotus forum.

I loved the GT3's but finally gave them up as doing 15ish track days a year it was costing me more than I was comfy spending on wear and tear and upgrades were calling loudly.. so I went to Lotus and my costs are 1/4 of what they used to be and I can still keep pace with the GT3's...

Do I miss the GT3 RS... GOD YES!

Presumably you have a honda Elise if you are keeping up with GT3s?

I agree that they handle well (I used to own an Elise) but they are nowhere near as fast in as straight line once you get past 80mph. A competent driver in a GT3 will see one off.

I do have to admit though - there was a chap at Bedford recently running a 300bhp MKI Exige and that thing was FAST..

As always it depends who's driving which car, and having owned an RS as well as a Mk1 GT3 and a GT2 I'd admit that in the RS I'd be a couple of seconds faster than 240R on an open circuit, standard Mk1 or Mk2 Gt3 against a 240R, bugger all in it..

I miss the noise of the Porsche, I don't miss the bills, basically just need to get off my arse and earn enough money not to care...

Not wanting to argue but the RS isn't 2 seconds a lap quicker than a MKII or MKI especially if both cars are on the same rubber.
