AWESOME colour on 996 C4S - could it have been Meteor?

I walked past a '54 plate 996 C4S in London (on Ifield Road) on Wednesday and was stunned by the colour - immediately thinking 'my 997 TT HAS to be that colour'.
It definitely wasn't Seal or Atlas - could it have been Meteor? Was Meteor available then? I think that it was too dark to be slate.
I HAVE to know before I spec mine - I was tempted to chip a bit of paint off and take it to my dealer...
just kidding.

so...some sort of grey colour then? wow, that will really rock. have you ever thought of getting a mercedes?

but, i have difficulty reconciling this with the idea of being 'stunned' by the colour you spotted. how can you be stunned by subtlety? if it were that subtle, you wouldn't have noticed.
see if you can get the 'hens teeth' accessory pack, i hear they're an option on the Grey ones.

well, horses for courses. but lets face it, its not an understated car. for example, how many of your denizens of atlas, seal, meteor etc etc etc will have a sports exhaust? cant have it both ways.
I'm sorry but i just dont buy this understated stuff. I think the not-so-hidden agenda is that (a) it looks ok when its dirty (unlike for example midnight blue
) and b) people are going for these safe (i.e DULL) colours because they are obsessively worried about residuals. Just look at the number of anally retentive posts about residuals from people who havent even bought their car yet. Its a sports car FFS. its not meant to be sensible. Its meant to be impractical, a pain in the arse for the family, environmentally unfriendly, and so utterly beautiful that all is forgiven. JLo looks good in an understated ball gown. but many of us would also like to see her in a dayglo lime green thong!

I'm sorry but my therapist says I can't mention the P word anymore.
I'm happy just driving the car really - doesn't matter if it gets a bit dirty or the paint a bit dull. It's only a car eh?

I should mention that I speak from experience re: being 'flash' - I love my Aston AMV8 but everywhere I go (and this is no exaggeration) people photograph me, try to speak to me, poke their head in the window, stare etc. (and this is in a dark grey coupe - I hate to think what attention a yellow cab would attract!). Attention is usually in appreciation (though I have had jealous shoutings such as 'money doesn't buy you class') - and a lot of people would love this but it's just not me. I love driving and am at my happiest on a great country road on my own. At the same time I love my car to look great when I open the garage door - and therefore do seek a 'stunning' but 'understated' colour, which IMHO are achievable together (and it's my car so MHO counts!).
I don't enjoy being the centre of attention - in my 911s no one bats an eyelid but I can still have just as much fun behind the wheel (in the same way that an M5 is a great achievement). To people who say that a 997 TT is not understated - it absolutely is relative to the competition. Show me another car that is anywhere near as subtle but demonstrates the same level of quality, performance and exhiliration?
