I'm still aiming at the AMV8 early next year BUT I am having some reservations due to reliability (hence me delaying my order by 12 months). As more time passes though the whole concept of the Cayman, as well as it's looks, really grows on me! As does the £40K pocketed. Ah well, 2007 will tell!!

picked up mine last week and ive got to say it is fantastic in everyway the best car i have ever driven by a longway.

i was luclky enough to be able to chose the cayman or a 997 after driving them both the cayman and the money in my pocket was a better option for me.

Cayman though was just wonderful to drive and its a car I'd buy under different circumstances.
I chose an RS4 over the Cayman in the end (long story) which I hope I won't regret.

You may find it a little lacking in pace compared to a 997 or AMV8 but it more than makes up for it in every other way.

They do go wrong though. Clutches are weak for example according to some experiences on this site.

I disagree with that. Thing is it's a new model, they had a problem with a tiny percentage of cars with clutch problems and these were rectified.

Being one who had an affected car I can assure you it hasn't turned my feelings towards it at all. It was a superb car --> clutch went funny, they replaced it --> it's a superb car! Nothing's changed.

Porsche identified a problem existed, traced the root cause, and rectified. There's no way that any more cars would be leaving the factory with this fault still in place!

This is one reason why one purchases new - so when the cars go wrong it's someone else's problem and it's properly fixed.

Is the clutch on the cayman significantly different to the Boxsta s or 997???

Porsche are very good at rectifying any early problems, i wouldn't be over concerned.

My first draft read - but that'll be fixed by the time of delivery - but it didn't scan/read well as you could interpret it as being fixed only on that individuals car. so I dropped it.
I was merely posting that so Garyhun didn't think they were infallible.

As to buying new. Totally agree.
