993 Xenons vs Litronics
Discussion
I keep hearing about the benefits of Xenon lights (Xenon Schein Werfer as they seem to call them here) on 993s and Porsches in general. In other texts I read about Litronic light system apparently fitted as standard on 993 TTs. This is confusing as I'm pretty sure my car doesn't have the Litronic light system and some other 993tt in the UK i've seen don't either. Perhaps it was standard in another market?
What's the difference between Xenons and the Litronic light system or are they indeed the same?
If someone could ...erm.. shed some light on the matter I would be most grateful

Not an expert on 993's by any stretch....however, I know VerySideways (Pete Osborne) retrofitted a Xenon light kit into his 993TT...a kit sourced from Canada, although nowhere near my home PC where I have the URL bookmarked.
I saw them at a PH meet at Virginia Water before xmas....you certainly know if you have Xenons/Litronics...I think Litronic is just Porsches marketing name for exactly the same thing. One thing to beware of is that Original Fit Litronics, or any other Xenons from other manufacturers have to have an auto-levelling mechanism, that adjusts beam when they first arc-up.....retrofit items do not have that, and are thus not compliant (as I understand it) with UK MOT tests. Good news is that "old" Halogen setups can be re-installed for the MOT fairly quickly!

I retro-fitted xenon lights to my 993 - a reasonably easy DIY job - and it's sailed through MOT's even though I don't have a self-levelling system fitted. The first time it was MOT'd the nice man at the garage even used his device to align the beams for me so that they were spot on.
I doubt you'd have a problem with the MOT test.

Sadly the UK was one of the few markets that didn't get the Litronics on the 993TT

... and they're about 2 grand for the OEM units

I actually fitted xenons to my second 993, a C2, and my third 993(a TT) had the factory Litronics.
Should be exactly the same, but i'd say the aftermarket kit i fitted was noticeably brighter than the factory kit. Not surprising, since the factory kit was a 1998 vintage and the aftermarket Philips kit i bought was in 2004/5 - you never know how much the technology could have improved in that time.
Here's the install guide i did for mine:

Hope this helps.
