Numpty question

Ok, hear it goes.......


Looking at 996 and 997 911s some seem to be wider at the rear than the other.

I think it looks great with its wide ass but what spec do you need to get the wide rear.

is it an option

On the 996 it is the 996 "S" models that have the turbo body but the 320 HP non-blown engine. So basically it is a faceliftet (MY2002) 996 on stereoids.

On the 997 it is the Carrera 4S only that is 44 mm wider over the back than the Carrera 2 and 2S.

Carerra 4S, GT2 and the Turbo are "Turbo" bodied and have a wider rear. Standard if you buy any of those cars!

Carerra 4S generally maintains a £10K premium over standard non-turbo bodied Carerras.

there is a high specced rare C4 with the wider body in the classifieds, its still there i just checked, and it was the feature car in Evo in feb2006

be quick, it might still be there

3.6L and 320bhp from 3.4L / 300bhp (odd)

997 4 / 4S 1,852 mm

And FWIW, the 993 model is different in this respect in that it has a widebody if it's a C2S, C4S, Turbo, Turbo S or GT2. The first and last ones are rear wheel drive only, all the others are 4wd.

Er... that's right isn't it? Actually beyond the 993 are all GT2s rear wheel drive?

So the look is very subtle, its not like the 997 C4S has a 'turbo bodykit' like the 996 did. In photos I can't see any real difference, but 5cm is 5cm.

I was following a 997 Carrera (Non S) tonight and it looks wide

996 Carrera 2, Carrera 4, GT3
997 Carrera, Carrera S, GT3
996 4S, GT2, Turbo
997 Carrera 4/4S, Turbo
