whats wrong with everyone??!! the sun is out, or even if it isnt, at least its warm. the number of boxsters and other assorted soft-tops - 911, audis, beamers, MGs, mercs etc etc driving round with their roofs all still up is deeply odd. Ive started shouting at them. And getting obsessional - 11 cabs counted on the way in to work this morning, mine was the only roof-down. Driving a cab in the UK is a somwhat dispiriting experience for a least 8 months of the year, so why on earth not enjoy the moment? I dunno, people are weird

Makes you wonder why they buy 'em dunnit! Unless of course they only have short journies to do - still no excuse on days like these though. Only saw 4 cabs on way to work today, 3 beemers and a boxster, only one of the beemers was roofless.

I bought my 944 T Cab in October last year. I swore a solemn oath that unless it was raining I would use it with the top down to justify the extra £££ I paid!

I have driven down with the top through winter (that heater is fantastic!) and thoroughly enjoyed the crisp air!

Results:
(1) Big happy
(2) Glove box contains wooly hat and a pair of driving gloves.
(3) Girlfriend does not think I am as marvellous as before...
(4) People yelling stuff at me (I don't care, I am enjoying my prize possession!)

I'll have my medal now please.

thats the spirit. i too have tried to top-down on every occasion through the winter, all the while eschewing those limp-wristers in their mercs with those heater vents in the headrests. after all, what is a glove box for, if not for thermal gloves and a beanie hat. even in light rain, as long as i stay over 30mph the cabin stays dry. I do occasionally feel foolish at the lights though, and small children, nestling under their umbrellas, point at me, giggling. Now the sun is out, i hope that nubile ladies will be pointing, but for another reason.

I enjoyed a good deal of open-topped motoring in the crisp winter sunshine in my recently departed Smart Roadster, although it was a little risky if there was a prospect of rain, as the hard top took a few minutes to put on if a downpour threatened.

On another matter:- I note that a couple of you have 968 or 944 convertibles. How are the soft tops holding up on those? I'm considering pushing a 968 Cab on a friend of mine who's looking at sports cars but would like a convertible, and a good 968 is about on the money for him. However I'd heard that the soft top can be a little problematic, as they're getting on a bit and may need replacement.

Funny thing this open top motoring - I like to think I am a right old Petrol- Head - but I love soft top motoring. The fact that Cab/Convertibles are a bit heavier of more wobblesome than their Tin-Top bretheren seems not to matter to me once the roof is off - it is great.

What is not so great - is the fact that a lot of people think you are showing off - or your are attention seeking - and this can yield some un-desirable attention. Especially if the convertible you are driving is a bit tasty.

When I had my 996 Cab - I had the rear of my car kicked by a drunken loon - and on another occasion someone threw a fresh, sugary donut into my car. Which when I look back now is quite funny... perhaps they thought I looked a bit hungry...

Anyway, at the time it made a right mess... bits of sugar all over the dash - in the instruments etc etc.

Hood down driving is most -excellent and it is does not deserve all the hair-dresser quips it gets IMHO -

I nearly went for a 997S Cab - but it was getting expensive and sometimes you have to say stop.

Shame isn't it. What one must remember is that some people are c***s. They'll always be c***s. Later, after you've driven off and can no longer hear them they will still be a c***t.

I have to say such blatant displays are less common here up north, I think there's less obvious wealth disparity so the underclass aren't as militant, although you still always have to force you're way out at junctions etc. because no f****r will let you out, or indeed not accelerate to block you.

It's good in a way, because it's not nice or honourable to swan around looking down on people and rubbing their noses in it deliberately... until they try to f*** you and make it apparent that they harbour serious personal ill will towards you based simply on jealousy, at which point your moral shackles are released and you can really flaunt it... and laugh yourself to sleep afterwards.

I love my cab, and I do tend to get my top off whenever I can, and yes driving around half nakid does get you some funny looks but hey who cares. Didn't take it this morning though, 'cos my drive to work is only a 10 mins 40mph drive, so it seems pointless. Roll on the Weekend !!!

Happens with Tivs too. More with Porsches - the c***s know how much they cost...or did when they were new.

Don't let it put you off. Porsches are utterly brilliant. I'm on my third and there will be more...

had no probs at all. renovo on the fabric, zymol silicon stuff on the rubbery bits. hood looks fine, works fine, sounds a bit agricultural but up or down in 30secs. not bad for an old bird...

every convertible ive ever had has had the roof down at all times: i just dont see the point if not. plus, driving on a cold clear night with the stars above you and the heaters on

i still yell at people when i see em with their roof up, especially on a day like today. people are stoopid, thats why they do everything.

There's a bloke I often drive past that shouts at cars too, don't think they have to be convertibles though.
