Warranty providers - any recommendations?

Hi guys, I've just bought a 996TT (2003) and am contemplating warranties - the Porsche extended warranty is expensive, but on the face of it, comprehensive. However, I am concerned that they will wriggle out of any obligations because I don't plan to have the car serviced by an OPC (I'm not a big fan of OPCs since my previous 996 blew up with a cracked cylinder and they left me high and dry).
So, can anyone recommend a good warranty provider that has cover to match that offered by the Porsche warranty? After my experience with my previous 996, not having a warranty isn't an option.

There's a LOAD of warranty chat if you dig around in the archives of this forum.
Generaly concensus is go for an OPC warranty - it's worth the extra cash and every warranty provider will try to wriggle out of things. If you think that it's expensive then look at the cost of BMW M-power warranties - £1800. Furthermore the OPC warranty does not require you to service the car at OPCs (I think) - it just requires an inspection and to be 'brought up to standard' to qualify for a warranty if it has expired.

Even though you had a bad experience with the OPC's I would still get the Porsche Warranty.
If you had one on your 996 I would have thought the engine failure would have been covered. Do you agree?
I realise why you are so against them but I feel that the cost is fair. (I have just sold my M5 because of the way BMW hiked the warranty cost each year and now charge £250 excess everytime you take the car in!!)
I have just bought a 2000 996 Cab and I'm in the process of getting a Porsche warranty.
But like you I will want to use a specalist for servicing etc. (Do you have details of the guy who helped you out as I'm in the south and he sounds like a decent chap.

No experience of others, but i would recommend the OPC one.
As said, flat bed to local OPC should it not be fixed at roadside, where it gets looked at straight away. You get a courteousy car delivered and when it's done your car is valeted. If it takes more than two days the OPC pay for the courteousy car (hence them being forced to look at it straight away.)
When it comes to selling the car, I think it looks good (rightly or wrongly) to be able to say "Porsche warrenty...can extend without inspection etc etc"

Get the OPC warranty, no question. Your engine failure (about which I am very sorry having read about it here and on 993uk.com *cough* sorry 911uk.com) would have been covered.
£15 a week to insure against mechanical failure on a 996TT with an engine worth (according to Chris Harris) £40,000 sounds like a bargain to me. Peanuts.
You've been burned once by buying outside of the OPC network and not buying the OPC warranty, and your experience should be a lesson to all. Most people slag off OPCs on here, all very clever I am sure, but if you take the trouble to build a relationship with a good one then you will be taken care of. I have never had anything other than brilliant service from OPC East London and OPC Cambridge, and have had well over £10k worth of warranty work done without question, no forms, no hassle, just fixed for free and off you go. And this on a six year old car (albeit with FPSH.)
I am thinking of upgrading to a GT2, and I know where it will be coming from. And it won't be anywhere other than an OPC I know.
