World of Confusion!! 993 C2S or Targa....?!?

Thought about that - very hard to find and a little out of my budget..
Currrently am down to two options.
1. targa - 1 owner, 35k, black on silver - 30k
2. c2s - 5 owners, 48k, cashmere on black - 32k
Why didnt they make a wide body targa?!
What would you think?
Need to do checks etc, and see them, but wanted to get one b4 the long weekend...have only driven a targa - and for ten mins - woke up thinking about it this morning!!
I've read something about the air con on the 993 being a little underwhelming...do you know if thats true?

Targa.
The widebody is nice, but you'll soon get used to it and the novelty will wear off, whereas you'll always have pseudo-open-topped motoring with the Targa.
There will be widebodied Targa's out there that were special ordered (ah, the good old days) but they'll be hella expensive.

It's only a problem if there IS a problem with the system. If it's under gassed or has a leak it won't perform properly. Many are like this and because they go gradually people don't notice. The cars are at least 9 years old now, so the aircon may need some attention!

It depends on your planned usage, how long you want to keep it, and which appeals to you: relaxed or hardcore.
The Targa you mention is quite special because it's only 1 owner. Low mileage and a good colour help it. Decent price considering.
The C2S: you will be the 6th owner making it more difficult to resell (if you do), and the mileage is on that cliff before cars start becoming less desirable by those who are looking for such a car. Cashmere is popular Stateside, but less so in the UK. Black is not as flattering to the widebodies compared to the metallics...
Ah ok. That makes sense. And totally accept that not a modern car, the air conditioning not exactly why I want to buy it anyway!!
Am erring towards the targa, but really like the black C2s...decisions decisions!!

Interesting choices, both great cars, so I can see why your drawn to both.
If it helps, I started my quest for a 993 with a targa in mind. This was basedon fancying open top motoring but liking the look of the coupe. I therefore decided that the targa was the best of both worlds. I saw a few targas and really liked the light airy feel of the glass roof. But the more I looked the more I decided I didn't want one. I'll try and list the factors that swayed me from the targa to the coupe.
1 - instead of being best of both worlds I decided it was a poor compromise. Because its based on the cab, you lose the rigidity of a coupe.
2 - You're settling for cab running gear, but the open roof is actually just a glorified sunroof so you don't even get the full open top experience.
3 - The glass roof can be affected with problems. There are three separate motors, controlled by a spaghetti of wires/electrical gubbins, driving a stack of differnt cables for the winding mechanisms. It's all done so very neatly that it looks simple, but the reason it looks so good is because it's bloody complicated.
4 - The roof can leak water, and can create wind noise. I believe they are very reliable, but at the end of the day it's a 10 year old car. One that I saw at a dealer had definitely been leaking over a period of time because there were water marks down the interior from the roof on both sides. Another had a small rust patch on one of the body spars that run either side of the glass roof caused by water collecting in the channel at the front of the glass.
5 - The targa has the cab doors which don't have a frame round the glass. Consequently they don't seem as solid. If you go to a dealer with both types open and shut the doors and you'll see what I mean.
So in the end I decided that I had to jump one way or the other. Either I wanted open-top in which case it had to be the cab, or I didn't so it had to be a coupe.
But all 993's are great cars so whatever version you choose will put a smile on your face.

I did see the one in 911 - not the colour I'd prefer...
Am erring towards the targa - my reasons are that while the wide body is beautiful,its just a wide body on the 2S...I cant stretch to the 4S which has the wide body, brakes & suspension...and if I can get a good targa model, and get it checked etc, then that might be the way to go...Really marginal call, I'm sure that the one I dont buy will be the one I do buy next!!!
Never had a 993 personally, but I'm sure I read that the 2s and 4s were not as good as the standard car - Both a bit 'lardy', and a bit more of a poseurs car compared to the narrow bodied car...... Anyone else heard this....? Great looking car tho'....

2S performance near as dammit the same performance all round as the 2; as to the 4S I'm not sure but it's quite a bit heavier - the brakes are heavier as are the wheels compared to the 2Ss (often fitted from new) hollow spoke wheels.
Also, in many cornering situations (particularly in the dry) I should think you have a higher grip level with the wider 2S and 4S rear tyres / wheels compared with the 2 and 4.
