I am looking to buy a boxster a car i have admired since its launch, my budget however is around £20-22k, this put me in market for a old 2.5 car.....or so i thought i have seen a 99V 2.7 model for £22k (trade, good garage) but it has 106,000 miles on the clock. Is this a good deal, are boxsters good for high miles, will it be worth buttons when i trade it in, and are there any known problems with high mileage boxsters. Any help in making me assess whether this a good deal , or whether i woukld be better off sticking to an older lower milkegae 2.5 would be appreciated

I bought a P reg 70,000 miler recently for £18k, it was a known good car that had been looked after by my mate's garage. However it was only that cheap because the chap was looking to shift it quickly and he knew I was a cash buyer, normal price would have been north of £19 - 20k private and perhaps £21k dealer. CAP price was apparently around £17k.

Thanks for the reply, have you had any problems with yours having covered 70,000, do you think 106,000 is too great a mileage?
Basically is the 2.7 V plate car with 106,000 miles a good buy at that price or would i be better off getting a 2.5 P/R plate with a lot less miles for similar money (£22k)? Is the 2.7 a much better car, enough to offset the inter galactic miles, and can it cope with this mileage or will it need expensive re-builds etc...
Need help to decide whether milegae is such an issue as the rest of the car spec etc is ideal.
Many thanks all.

No problems yet but I've only had it two months. Higher mileage cars may start needing big items e.g. shocks, steering rack, transmission. However I think you'll find cheaper cars out there than the one you're looking at. I saw the following ad today on Bloomberg:

Title: PORSCHE BOXSTER - TIPTRONIC 99 2.5
Location: London Price: £23,950

Descrption:
PORSCHE BOXSTER- TIPTRONIC ON 99 S PLATE. LUX PACK, 17" WHEELS, 6 STACK CD,
WIND DEFLECTOR AND MANY OTHER EXTRAS- £43,500 CAR WHEN NEW FROM LANCASTER
BOW- I AM THE ONLY OWNER AND HAVE DONE ONLY 15,500 MILES. CAR GARAGED AND I
MMACULATE CONDITION. SILVER WITH BLACK LEATHER. TRACKER FITTED TOO.

It's a bit high at that price, but the mileage shouldn't worry.

They are 140+ mph cars built for hammering
up & down the autobahns all day every day.

UK is 70 mph country, without the extremes of temperature
or weather that the Germans get.

As Clarkson says "All high performance cars are
unreliable - unless it's a Porsche".

Go for it. Put that money in Stuttgart's hand.

sbc,

I'd think very carefully before buying it. I know that mileage is not such an issue with Porsches, my 99V 996 has done 52K (and I thought that was high !), but over 100K has got to affect the resale price.

I guarantee that if you take the car back in a years time to the same garage he'd offer you next to nothing, if he'd take it at all.

How long are you planning to keep the car and what sort of mileage are you gonna be doing ?

If you decide you want the car make the dealer a silly offer first. I'm sure he's itching to get rid of it and it probably doesn't owe him anything near 22K, IMHO.

Oh get an OPC inspection as well.

Thank you very much for the advise, i would be looking to keep the car for 2-3 years ideally. The re-sale price is a major concern as whilst i only do about 8000miles per year, after a few years motoring it would be up to 130,000 and i suspect that it would be very hard to sell on.
Whilst the larger engine and newer plate has tempted me i think that reading the advise here the best course of action is to ignore it and get an older 2.5 model car with far less miles on the clock for similar money.
Thanks all.
