996 Turbo 2 wheels
Discussion
Had a problem with one of the back wheels on my 996 (99) cab. They are 18in Turbo 2's and only one was slightly marked. But I found out that one rear wheel was buckled so my local OPC ordered a new one. The new wheel turned up and during the fitting process then found that it was ¼ in to big. Now I take it they mean with width as 18in is 18in and not 18 1/4in.
So they looked and found that Turbo 2 wheels that were made around the 99 mark are different from the ones that are being made now, so you will find it very hard to find one to replace it. I was going to have to wait 3 months to get a replacement from Porsche. Luckily the OPC and myself came to a agreement o change all four so I will not have the problem if I ever have wheel problems in the future.
So the moral on the story, be VERY AWARE of you wheels if you have 18in Turbo 2's that are made around 1999. It could mean the car off the road for 3 months!!!!
Cheers

HI Daz,
Well I am sorted but the car has been so much trouble that it has to go, but not before the Le-Mans trip in June. I have to do this as I have paid for the tickets and there are a few of us going. But the Porsche Experience for me has not been a good one. I brought it as I had been very impressed with the write ups on both the 993 and the 996, I stared looking at the 993 then a Boxster S and in the end a 996 Cab. But the Porsche build quality is not that good on my car and I feel that the car in hole is not worth the 45K I paid for it. Ok so that is not top money to some and yes the early 996 had a very build issues. But it has been nothing but trouble. If it was not for the OPC and a very good warnetyWarranty I would have been about 6 grand out of pocket in the 6 months I have had it.
Gear box
New set of wheels as you have to wait for a guy in a back shed in Germany to make some new ones.
New tyres as the buckled wheel knackered the tyre as well.
Wiper motor
Wiper mechanism
O well, perhaps after the Le-mans trip I will think diffrently about the last few months.

Er. Having got all the problems out of the way, that should've been done before taking delivery perhaps you're ready for a trouble free run? Try and forget the crap which hasn't actually cost you anything other than time and concentrate on enjoying the car. You may feel a little differently especially when you've had the chance to thrash the fcuk out of it on some foreign motorways (Not advisable
, yeah right!)

PS which style of alloys did you go for? I quite like those narrow 5 spoke 18 inchers that I think were an option on 02 carreras.

Ye, perhapes you are right? we will have to see, depends on what else go's wrong!
As for wheels, well I wanted the Turbo wheels (as on the 996 Turbo), but they are still quite pricey. PLus the deal with the OPC ment that I am having the 18in Sport Classic. Not the best wheel, but if I keep the car (a BIG IF!) then I can change these at a later date for somthing a little more sporty. I was thinking of having a GT3/Areo kit fitted (depends if I keep it or not). So if I do then the Turbo wheels will look mighty fine.
I had a look at new 996 Cab in black with the areo kit and these Turbo wheels...boy it looked dame good.
I might just bite the bullet and order a new 996/4S and have a car that the build issues have been sorted on???? See what the other half thinks once the Cab we have is in a state to at least be able to sell.
cheers

A C4S is a mighty fine car with the same 4WD, PSM etc that keep my car on the road. I recommend this idea to your Mrs.

Edited to say, or wait a year or so and pick up a turbo. Residuals are sure to drop as they are making too many of them (IMHO).
