Another Turbo estimate!
Discussion
I am looking to sell my motor, 996 TT 51 plate. Its standard basalt black and has 28k on the clock. It has a load of extras (advert on classifieds) and I have put it on for £49,500.
Is this the right price? I have one interested party (who will no doubt see this thread - hi jon!) who has offered on it. What do you feel I sould accept?
Advice please!

Are you seriously asking for detailed negotiation advice on a forum where you know the buyer is also a forum user?? Are you serious?
Buying/selling cars, or anything, is a matter of achieving what you want, not what 'we' think it is worth. None of us have seen the car, driven the car, inspected the paperwork etc. Only you know what you paid for it, how well you have maintained and cared for it and, ultimately, only you know how much you are prepared to accept as a 'fair' offer.
The buyer/s will have their own criteria as to what is fair based on condition and their own circumstnaces.
For instance, I don't want a turbo. To me, the car isn't 'worth' £49k, as I don't want one. If you find a buyer who wants nothing but a basalt black TT exactly like yours, it will be worth more.
Sorry I couldn't answer your question!

well I am keeping my eye out for a basalt TT and woud say your pricing is fair (that's a fiver you owe me)
w/o seeing the car I can't commment any further but for eg - I would try and knock down if it needed new tryres, wheel refurb, scratches to touch up etc
not interested in yours I'm afraid as after a 52 plate or younger

Yes I am serious. Firstly, I am just putting on the market this weekend. I have an ad on PH I quickly got together a days ago, which I have refined, but nothing else. I expect to have to advertise in the usual places, top marques, maybee times, etc.
The interest I have got, from a chap who uses this forum, is much quicker than I expected and I don't think serious, although he may prove me wrong. I therefore am willing to take the gamble of these comments being read as the car is worth what the car is worth, regardless of my sentiment or his purchasing acumin.
As for your comments regards what the car is worth, or what I would be willing to accept, can we take as read that most of us who own and run such cars will at least realise what you say as obvious. Furthermore, if you were at all interested in anything other than an uniformed poke at my seeming naievity, I did link the genuine question I posed to my ad in the clasifieds. You would have found this to be comprehensive enough to answer all your assumptions.
If you were not having a poke at my question, perhaps you mistook this question as an ad. It is not, and I deliberatly kept the details brief so as to not create confussion. I am finding it difficult to value this car as I cannot find many cars that arn't sold through dealers and thus more expensive, and I thought that some of the readers might be able to help me.
Obviously you can't, which begs the question why you wasted your time writing a copious and somewhat condesending reply.
AAAAAAAHHHHH! .. now I get you ... funnily enough , tt's are 'better value' over here , I think it's because they'd be viewed as specialist (with little specialist backup available) so yours would weigh in around 100-115k in euros. (Bear in mind that that an n/a facelift '02 would be around the ton over here too.)
Editted to suggest you have a giggle and look at the list of Porsches in 'carzone.ie' , bearing in mind that most of them will not have a proper service history and NONE of them will be with an OPC warranty.

andrew - took a look at the ad and seems a very nice example and gives little reason to knock £ off for things mentioned.
Personally the only thing would make me want to discount is lac of satnav and I would be 5th owner - I know this does not mean the car has been badly looked after, its just a personal thing but others may else consider it
FWIW I also have a pet hate of ads that mix options and std equipment. If you must list it all (can be a good idea if someone is not familiar with the high std spec of a TT) separate it out, thus:
The usual high std spec:
black full leather
air con
rear wash wipe
Xenons headlights with cleaning system
sunroof
alacantra roof lining
Bose sound system
auto dim mirrors
computer
+ these cost options:
basalt black metallic
small arctic silver pack (that is what yours officially has)
heated seats
sports seats
stainless steel door entry guards
tracker monitor
ali and leather handbrake / gearshift

I appreciate what you are saying. My problem is I don't know what a standard TT has, so I hope that won't annoy any would be buyers. As for sat nav and owner numbers, you could argue that sat nav is very rarely used and if the cars in good condition, its in good condition however many owners. But I very much take your point - these items are personal preference.

satnav agree esp. as on a 51 plate satnav would be the far less desirable PCM!
owners - agree also, it may not affect condition - more psychological really and the chances of 5 sympathetic, meticulous owners is much les than 1 of them if you see what I mean
re. std spec I have defined it for you based on your ad - if there is some more bits I or others could tell you whether they were std or not
good luck
Andrew - based on spec, age, mileage etc... the car seems very reasonable.
The market for these cars is, I believe, quite good now, and is attracting the more discerning buyer. They shouldn't be put off by the lack of PCM, in fact, I believe that many punters would prefer not to have it, as it's just another thing to go wrong. It's really only an issue on newish cars, where 'perceived' equipment levels are important.
So long as the car is well looked after, then you should have no problems - there would appear to be a few 'dogs' out there, so the good ones are rare commodities - hope yours is one of these....!

Thanks for that - I originally started posting here as, although very keen on motors and this marque in particular, I didn't know that much about them. Its good to think I have got the pricing about right.

sports seats were a no cost option but you lost the memory function if you took them.

I see the price has come down from my initial enquiries then. The only problem i could find with the car was the age. It wasnt even a problem, more of a personal preference. I am after an 02/52 or younger. The car is at a fair price i think as it is the colour i want. There are cheaper ones around with less owners or a few registrations younger but if someone is after a Black on Black Turbo for under £50k, it would be in with a good shout. I personally dont want a silver car or something with a light interior as i know how hard these are to maintain. I assume there is a small negotiation amount allowed in the current price also. Is the service still applicable to the car Andrew? If it is and u put that in the ad, im sure u would get a better response.

Hello again.
Yes, i have dropped the price, or moreover time has done that to a certain degree. And yes, there is some negotiation. As for service, I know what you mean, but the problem is that it doesn't need one for a good few months and miles and its not transferable, so it isn't worth that much.
But if you are in the market for it, why not!
As for your preference on age, I think thats no reason at all. Don't take this the wrong way, but after speaking to you and reading your posts on this site, I don't think you are serious about buying a Turbo. You have been looking for what, 3 months, maybee 4? I understand you may not want a 51 plate; fine. But to use the reason the car is 6 months or less too old. Please! There are some good examples out there and you are not going for them for the most minor of reasons.
Life is short, Jon. I will no doubt sell my car, having originally intended to have kept it some time, for a fair loss after only a few miles driving and only a few months ownership. But I will have no regrets at all.

Andrew,
50k is a hell of a lot of money for me and i only tend to keep cars for around a year. I am 100% serious about buying a 996TT asap but i dont want to overpay for it. Your car was £52k 3 weeks ago which i said was a bit rich 4 me. I said i was looking to pay around £48k which you did not see as an acceptable offer. I know a lot of people on here harp on about not worrying about residual values but its a big issue for me as i am extending myself for my dream car. I currently have an 03 M3 cab. If i get an older car it will play on my mind. I cant afford an 03 996TT but will get as close to it as i can. As far as im concerned a 996TT is not going to go up in price so i will wait till i find the car i want so i dont regret paying 50k or more for a car that is not exactly what i want.
