pushy dealer...
Discussion
just put a substantial deposit on a porsche from a respectable dealership, problem being is they are saying i have to pick it up by the end of this month to meet their figures, having explained this is not possible due to work commitments and the dealer being 2hrs away.i have explained that i will pick it up on 3rd june.they are saying that this probably is not going to be possible...does anybody know where i stand on this, am i within my rights to stick to my guns
Sounds bloody rediculous, they have the right to not sell to you, but this sounds like they don't care about customer good will.
Use it to negotiate a further discount, pick the car up when they want you to and then tell them to f@ck off and take your servicing else where.
YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER!

To hit their targets the car will need to be registered by the end of the month. This means it will be taxed from May rather than June, so ask them to throw in one months' tax worth of freebies or a free Supaguard / Diamond Brite type treatment (normally charged at £300 - £400 but only costs the dealer £40)and let him tax it for May, but you pick it up on 3rd June.
they did'nt mention about it being registered from may 1st,they just said it had to be within this months figures.....big bonus maybe....i said to them i did'nt want it taxed until june 1st(at my expense)this means that car insurance is invalid without a valid tax disc so i would'nt pick it up until after that date anyway....what happened to pleasing the customer!!!!

and...i paid the deposit over the phone and there is no written contract between us as yet, as your replys suggest I SHOULD SAY WHEN I WANT TO PICK THE CAR UP!!!!!bl...y cheek
If you bought over the phone then you are protected by Consumer protection [distance selling regulations-2000] enabling you to cancel the order and ask for a refund if you like. In fact up to 7 days after delivery of the car....
Bennno
Thanks for the advice. I paid the deposit over the phone, but went to view the vehicle yesterday. Nothing was signed and i was not allowed to test drive the vehicle because it was raining!!i was told to contact the assistant i was dealing with today as he was off yesterday.i did phone in advance telling them i was coming down but it's their 'policy' no test drives if it's raining!!!!!

Had a friend buying from Chiswick. They would not give him a penny off the price of a new Cayman (yes, 1 has been sold). Then they said they wanted the money 4 days before he was due to collect the car, by telegraphic transfer. This just happened to be the last day of the month. When he said no, because they had been unreasonable about the negotiations, they begged him to the point of embarrassment and finally offered hundreds of pounds of credit to spend on goodies in the show room. It's all about getting their monthly figures in to achieve the bonus salary payments. He complied and is now the proud owner of a baseball cap and 1/32 scale car - money doesn't go far with our german friends!! VERY CHEAKY..JUST SAY NO or ....Whats in it for me???:mad
Why not just say "fine, you pay the extra months tax and deliver it to me and we're all happy"? You can get into a battle if you like, but in my experience, they come back to haunt you. If they pay the tax and deliver, it seems to me, you're no worse off and get the car a few days early.
call them and say your unhappy with that demand, and as such you want your deposit returning as you are cancelling your order...
If they try and argue, just bring up your consumer rights and the fact if they'd like to discuss this through trading standards you'd be happy to...
whats the bet they will suddenly meet YOUR requirements...

This seems to me to be the best outcome fo all.
It is a standard policy to get the car on this months books, it may well be their end of quarter or financial year, so use it to your advantage.
G
i would'nt object to them taxing it from may 1st and losing a months tax if they said we will put half tank fuel in or equivalent to the months lost tax but they haven't even offered that,as for delivery that's not possible hence why i said the earliest i can collect is june 3rd,i would rather wait those extra couple of days and collect at my convenience not there's..still waiting for the phone call back....

Yep, just do this and be firm. Matter should be resolved asap.
I'd have thought you could use their desperation as a tool for further negotiations! I'm not sure where you are buying from but sales targets (especially year end) can be huge (I know the DP at a non-performance brand and the group bonus can be up to 250k apparently)!
Personally I'd play hard ball, tell them that your cash is locked away until xx but you may be able to get a short term loan - although you'd want the car fully fuelled, delivered, with the tax paid for and your first service free to make it worth the hassle.
They can only say no! Depends how close they are to their target and what they have to lose though!

reieved a call back from said dealer, issue was his sales target for the end of may, have to say i don,t really care about his targets, not my concern and they were made clear of this..My money so will collect when suits me, we have agreed on 3rd june looks like issue resolved, least it will get his next targets off to a good start!

I would have thought that if they wanted you to "care" about their targets they should have induced you with some compensation!
