just drove a 997s

The 997 s is a great car but do any of u agree it feels slow...i know its not slow and when u look at the speedo it certainly isnt slow, but when your driving it feels a bit dead... like it needs 70 bhp more... its disappointing to drive for this.. a m3 feals faster.... what u think....??

Funnily enough, you might prefer the normal 997 on 18s. It isn't as quick as an S, but it feels a bit more sprightly somehow...maybe a little less brutish. I'm a bit surprised that you felt it was slower than an M3. That may be because the 997 S feels so 'planted' and solid. Were you driving a manual car... * puts on broken record*

...I think the problem is that with the 997, Porsche basically created (for the US market primarily) a Merc SL that could actually handle like a Porsche and had Porsche steering feel. It did lose a bit more 'soul'. My '99 996 feels 'raw' in comparison (never thought I'd say that!). The 19" wheels on the 997 probably don't help the lack of 'get up and go' either.
However, I'd still get a 997 GT3 if I had the dosh!

Edit. Oh. Relative to a GT2, you mean. OOops. Ummm....point taken.
But then, I wouldn't be surprised to hear a 993 GT2 owner describe your 996 GT2 as a bit of a disappointment, and as a bit of hype over substance. Not that it is of course, but as was pointed out above - everything's relative.

I drove a 997C4S which I felt was a little lacking in power recently. Wasn't slow but didn't feel that fast.
Why would an M3 be any slower anyway ? Similar power & weight to a 997 C2S.
When I had a 996 C2 I had an M3 as a loan car & I thought that was a little faster than the C2, so I would anticipate the M3 is about similar in performance to a 997 C2.

Having owned an M3 SMG and now owning a 997 carrera S I think the carrera s does not feel as fast as an M3,but I would love to drag race one against the other in a straight line over a mile or two just to find out.Love the 997s and think it has enough power though-if you want more buy the 997tt!The M3 SMG is a wonderful car too and for the money a real bargain

Believe me there is a feeling of speed when you get it up to around 170-the tyre roar and road noise alone is deafening.
