no right turn scamera!

Just got a PCN for £100, reduced to £50 if paid in two weeks for turning right at a t-junc, no warning of the camera! Is this legal? What will they start to charge for next?

Its a f@cking outrage, makes you want to buy a shit heap, don't bother registering it, don't bother taxing it, don't bother insuring at and hey presto, no parking tickets, no bus lane fines, no speeding tickets, mind you I might have to learn an eastern european langauge.

Dunno about everyone else, but it'd make me pay attention to road signs in teh future rather than going to all that trouble.

agreed I should not break the law, but this t-junc did npt used to have a no right turn and it has recently been introduced, clearly to ease traffic congestion during rush hour, annoying thing here is that there were no cars on the maiin road at the time, so I thought whats the harm!

I never understand the situation where cars are allowed to turn right when often a few hundred metres away down the road there is a roundabout that allows you to turn back on yourself anyway

These traffic restrictions are quite often put in place by sandalist imbeciles on councils trying to increase vehicle miles per journey by making you meander around town instead of being allowed to take the direct route.

The advantage is once they've created gridlock they can introduce congestion charging and bus lanes by means of a "solution".

My sympathies. As a motorist you're fair game. I honestly think there are legions of scumbags manning hidden cameras at places like this.

yes yes, I know I have been caught, and my thread was not because I either a) thought I was not in the wrong or b) was looking for sympathy, my point of this thread was to test the legality in sending me a PCN, there were no signs indicating the scamera. I'll happilly give £50 to charity but not to the arseholes who run the local councils!

Makes me doubly annoyed because 4 weeks ago some scumbag keyed my car in a carpark that has cctv cameras, police not interested as they have said they cannot look through 8 hours of footage, so some lowlife gets away with thousands of pounds of vandalism to my car, yet I am caught and sent a fine (extra council tax) for disobeying a no right turn.

Trig - you're a motorist, and therefore an easy target - There is no justice.....
A quick story to amuse...
A few years back, I got rear ended (ooer!) at around midnight, by some drunk in a Bedford Rascal van. It was a bit off the beaten track, so no one around. When I saw him stagger out of his car, I decided to call the police. He's thought 'F*ck this', and legged it in his wounded Rascal - leaving his missus and kid at the scene with me! The police came 'an hour' later (great service). They breathalized me, then took my statement etc and gave me a 'producer'. They were incredulous to the fact that this clown had driven off and left his missus and kid!(the missus btw had her arm in plaster, where matey had tried to kill her in a car crash some weeks before! Pikey scum) Anyway, to the point. By the time they caught up with Matey (5 months later), he was doing a stretch 'at HM's pleasure', so they decide not to prosecute for offences against me - great. But to add insult, when I took my documents to the station the next day, I got a warning because (as I had recently moved) my licence didn't have the correct address on...! Talk about justice eh....

No if there was it would no doubt have got me by now. In the uk you are apparently photographed on average of 38 times a day from shop cctv, traffic monitoring cameras, council run crime reduction CCTV, petrol stations in many places now use car number reading camera technology, most car packs are cctv monitored, your logged in and out of most congestion zones plus many more.....
and I always like to look my best on film...costs me a fortune on fake sun tan and stylists

I think the data I saw was a average across the whole of the UK as an average. Its still way to much.. not that it bothers me that much. its not as if any one ever looks at.

Well, it is. Laws exist. You have three choices:

1. Abide by them. May be frustrating or seem unfair, particularly when the law is seen as tax collection by another name.
2. Try to change them. May be difficult or virtually impossible.
3. Break them. Easy. But be prepared to pay the price if/when you get caught.

I occasionally slightly exceed the national speed limit. Only by a few mph you understand. But if I get nicked I have no-one to blame but myself. Not the policeman who's enforcing the law. Not the council or parliament that passed it. Just me.

There seems to be a lot of pompous and self righteous crap on this thread. The bloke made an honest mistake and was looking for a bit of understanding.

Certainly this is more than he can expect from the Council enforcement cameras. He hasn't commited a "crime". He has been picked off like a "fish in a barrel" for an apparently minor infringement. No opportunity to explain himself, no chance for anyone to exercise discretion, just nicked.

I would:

a) make absolutely sure that the signs, lights and road markings comply with relevant legislation.
b) appeal as a matter of principle to incur some admin costs for the council
c) ask for further evidence about the statutory authority for the restriction etc.

You will probably still end up with paying the £50 but at least you will have got something for your money.

Good luck and you certainly have my sympathy.
