Guys, I'm thinking of selling the 968 convertible and moving into 993 ownership.

Any ideas on what would be a good price (privately sale) for the following:

1995 PORSCHE 911 2dr Carrera Coupe,
Porsche 993 Carrera, N-reg. Midnight blue, grey leather. Manual 6speed, 64k miles with FMDSH, previous Mot's and receipts. Climate control, ABS, Cat 1 alarm, full elecs and just serviced. A beautifull and cherished example.

Thanks in advance.

[sticksneckout] This will open up another can of worms but if it's got at least 17" cups (no sign of kerbing), sun roof, sports seats and is an original panel car with no dents/scraches/minimal stone chipping and a reasonable number of previous owners it should be in the order of £27/28k asuming it needs no work [/sticksneckout]

Cough, splutter & wipes tea up, £27K...is it a wide body car? if not way out.

Do you want a 993 because you like them or do you want a 993 because you don't think you can afford a 996....

Those two cars are from a dealer, not private, hence the high prices.

The criffords car is sold.

ahh gotcha!

a few things about it are it's running on 16"s, it's a tippy and the interior colour combo is :yeuck: . They on their own won't make much of a difference to the price but that is well underpriced (my guess is that it's got 'history' to be priced under the market) as high miles LHD are floating round that price.

Well, it has 86,000 miles on the clock and doesn't mention condition, so it's probably a dog at that price or not a Turbo S. Just looked at the Specialist Cars of Malton Website who are specialists and know their subject:

Porsche 993 Turbo
Arctic Silver
£59,995 - in stock now

Porsche 993 Turbo
Arena Red
£45,995 - in stock now

Porsche 993 C2S Tiptronic

Here's another from Autobahn, no mileage specified which indicates it's probably high:

911 Turbo - Arctic Silver Metallic
In Stock
Year 1997/P Colour Arctic Silver Metallic

Price £44,995 Body Style Coupe
Engine/Capacity 3600cc Transmission Manual

From Camtune:

Porsche 993 Carrera 2S Coupé
Zenith Blue Metallic with Graphite Grey Leather
18" Turbo Alloys, Air Conditioning, Alarm, Carbon/Ali Gear Selector & Handbrake, CD Player, Electric Sunroof, Headlamp Wash, Sports Seats, Tracker, White Lights, Turbo S Look,
Mileage 46,600 miles
Price Engine Capacity Transmission
£36,995 3596cc Manual

Porsche 993 Carrera 2S Tiptronic Coupé
Vesuvius Metallic with Space Grey Leather
18" Turbo Look Alloys, 3rd Brake Light Spoiler, Air Conditioning, Alarm, CD Player, Computer, Electric Sunroof, Sports Seats, White Lights
Mileage 53,700 miles
Price Engine Capacity Transmission
£34,995 3596cc

and so on.......

Not discussing if 996 or 993 is better but simple an issue of supply and demand. There were LOADS more 996s manufactured and that is reflected in their pricing.

Sleep Envy, as per my other thread, these are $tealer prices. A private sale to these dealers netted the seller no more than £24k tops. If the seller had sold privately? I wouldn't pay more than £25k if the car is mint and the suspension had been redone with Billy HDs.

And this car is a brilliant example of one, but the seller couldn't shift it when asking £32k 6 months ago on the PCGB forum. Guess what, this car is still sitting on Camtune's forecourt. The 993 market is definitely not as strong as some had predicted this time last year. Not many top 10 percentile cars around, but then again the demand for them is not that high...

ok but you won't get a 993 Turbo S for £39k that's in good condition. RSJ have a yellow Turbo S up for £60k with 54k miles on the clock. It's not on their website but it is in their ad in Total911.

Ah, but the Turbo S is a very special semi-collectors car that doesn't really appeal (realistically) to those looking for regular n/a 993s. Numbers of Turbo S made vs regular 993s tell all - especially when the Turbo S is such an uncompromising car for the road. IIRC, wasn't this yellow TurboS the same one that was in either GTPP or 911PW a while back last year? I think it's traded hands several times over the last 9 months.

That's exactly the point, there aren't many around and they're basically collectors cars so they will attract a premium, a bit like a 993 GT2 but to a lesser extent pricewise. The same applies to the 993RS, any in decent condition hold their value.

Not so.

Late last year I decided I'd waited long enough to buy an RS. The deal breaker would have been if I couldn't recoup what I paid for the 993 C2. I promised myself if I was losing any money I'd keep it for another 3/4 years.

Mid October I posted an advert in PH classifieds - it was the only place I advertised the car for 2 reasons; 1) I wasn't in a hurry to sell as I was still looking for my RS, and 2) I didn't want to get too much exposure as even I felt the asking price was too high.

By the first week of Nov 05 I had flipped my 993 C2 for £29k in a private sale, on original suspension although it didn't need any work doing. As I said yesterday, VS thought I was taking the piss with the asking but after the car had gone I felt that I had underpriced it by around £1k. The car was sold for what I paid for it 18 months earlier.

Whether people want to believe it or not good narrow body 993 coupes are making top money and will continue to do so as the market dictates the prices not the sellers or pepole discussing the issue on fora, notwithstanding the fact that there is a cross over in price between those cars and early 3.4 996s.

It's not the first time it's happened and I don't doubt that it will be the last time either (e.g. Mk 1,2 and 3 Golf, E30 & E36 M3, Series 1 & 2 Escort RS, big and small turbo Escort Cosworth, etc, etc). I'm sure we're not limited to just these examples either.

Please don't feel I'm knocking the 96, it's a good car aside from a few niggly issues which all cars have (incl the 93), but the killer blow for the 996 is there's simply too many of them.

Lets keep this in perspective, specialist models defy all logic when it comes to resale eg 964 RS, they've been up and down in value more times than a hooker's undercrackers.
