Boxster S blue smoke on starting ???

Hi guys,

Just bought a new, 4 month old Boxster S with 8k on the clock.

Every one in say 15 starts it gives out a fairly noticable puff of blue smoke on ignition which immediatly turns into regular white emmissions.

Is this normal, or have I got potential problems with the engine ?

TADTS (They All Do That Sir) It's absolutely nothing to worry about it's just a minute quantity of oil laying in the cylinders and not draining down like it would in a vertical engine. Seems to get more noticeable near a service. The likelihood of it happening seems to depend on how the car was driven just before the last drive of the night.

It can also be worse if you park on a slight up incline as a bit more oil sits in the cylinders and burns off as you start. Nothing to worry about!

That's the boxer engine for you. I was in the Ferrari main stealers one morning a while back when they turned over the engine on an F512M they had in the showroom. Within seconds it was like being back in 'Nam, you couldn't see out of the windows for smoke!

Brilliant noise though. Now I know why they wanted £80k for it!
