I have my first trackday tomorrow. Could someone please let me know whether I should keep my oil level at half or fill it up to the limit again. I'm sure I have read it is best to keep the oil level at about half day for trackdays to avoid overspill, but am really not sure.

Any halp advice appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

Fill to max, and maybe at little bit more. It's the fuel tank that's not meant to be full.

I wouldn't fill over the maximum line. It's there for a reason.

Thank you. I will fill to just about maximum.

The car is an 87' 3.2 carrera.

I have the tyres at recommended pressure i.e 29 front anf 36 psi rear.

I'm assuming I should stick to this. Also any advice for tomorrow as it's my first ever track day. I'm going to Snetterton near Norwich and am slightly nervous.

When hooning around corners if the back starts to go light, opposite steer accordingly, under no circumstances let of the gas pedal.

Have a good day. Hope the weather holds out for you.

Care...I have sold it now but tracked my 3.2 clubsport for a few years.
Oil,,do not have the level anything above mid level on the dipstick.there is a lot of oil in the system & it will get hot (expands) & you will be going round corners faster than you would on the road.Don't worry about oil surge ,it is a proper oil system for tracks unlike my current 996.

I was at castle Combe a couple of years ago when a 3.2 started to drip oil on the track when the oil was hot,the guy had topped the level up to max.The organisers made him come in & stay in the paddock for the day.It could cause a hazard on the track.

For tyres start off close to road pressures as you get more confident, you will find something near 32 ALLROUND when HOT will suit the car.
Do not forget to change the pressures back before you drive home.
Have fun,but be careful at snetterton, some interesting turns, but not the best for run off on your first track day

It is my understanding that if you fill the oil to the max there is a danger of it overflowing under cornering loads etc into the air filter. 3/4 full was the advice I heard.

Thank you clubsport, bilyb for your replies. I thought I had originally heard something similar. Will leave at half full then to be on the safe side.

I'm intending to get as much tuition as possible tomorrow to help me enjoy the day as safely as possible. Even though only a 3.2 the cars capabilities are way beyond that of my own, but looking forward to learning.

Cheers

have fun and remember its not a race, drive slowly for the first few laps/sessions, dont worry about others passing you.

Build your confidence up slowly, dont approah 10/10th driving at all, go to about 7/10th, gently do everything, brake nice and early, smooth stable cornering, firm but not heavy acceleration,

Get the feel of the car and circuit, you wont be fast on your first track day, and you shouldnt try to be the fastest, gently and smoothly and nice and early is the name of the game - you will love it.

let us know how you get on.

Thanks James, will definetely be using tomorrow as a learning exercise. Like you say, i'm not going there to go flat out, more get a better understanding of how to drive the car quickly. Hopefully this will be the start of years of fun!!

Will keep you informed.

Thought I would let you know I had a superb time yesterday.

There were a couple of 'moments' but otherwise it was a great learning experience. Only 2 porsches there, the rest were japanese, i.e Subarus etc.

I found the key to enjoyment was being as smooth as possible and not throwing the car around. The track was soaking wet, however I was suprised at the level of grip the car offered. It understeered more than expected but that could well be my novice driving!!

Exhaust sounded great going up the straight resonating of the pit wall, which had a few onlookers grinning.

Does anybody know of a good person/company ideally in the South east area that offers driver tuition for novices like myself.

I feel an addiction starting!
