Hello all
First post - thought I would introduce myself and my new toy - Black 996TT Roock front/rear splitter/spoiler, spacers and Roock ECU upgrade to 490 brake.
Picked up the beast on Wednesday and have'nt splept since! I was shocked at how easy it is to drive normally - and then sink it let the turbos spool up .......whooshhhhhh........... and woooooooooooow its scary fast! I know i havent even scratched the surface of what the cars ability really is, but so far in complete awe of the straight line speed.
I drove my cousins C4s last night and the difference in speed is astounding. However there has to be something to be said about naturally aspirated porsches - the power delivery of his car is lovely and linear - in mine the power appears just lazy and fat, until boost kicks in and it smacks you in the face like a ten tonne hammer. Also my cousins gearbox is silky smooth - mine feels jerky in comparison is that normal?
Just a few things that i would like to reflect on after a few days of ownership:
1) God damn - the thing drinks petrol - 2 tanks in 2 and half days. I suppose it does'nt help if you drive it everywhere!
2) Other people drive like complete tossers- they are either up your arse trying to race you, or not letting you out at junctions, cutting you up, not getting out of the way....... I suppose this all normal?? Reactions from others are either thumbs up or the wa*ker sign. Whats the matter? Can I not enjoy something I have worked hard for? The best are the guys who do their best not too look - they look the opposite way, but you can see their faces light up green.
3) I am crap driver. Need to learn how to take corners properly. I know the car is more than capable, but having spun other cars in the past, I am just plain scared at the moment of going into a corner at a speed that defies logic and coming out smiling.
4) Porsche make crap handbrakes and the car rattles all the time - normal??
Anyway enough of my rant. Looking forward to getting to know you guys and gals and contributing to the forum.

1. Get used to it - my slightly modified 993tt returned 12mpg - worth every penny though
2. I'm afraid this is normal in Britain these days. Spend more time in Europe, they're much less hostile.
3. Oh yes - 911's aren't like other cars, learning to drive one properly is paramount. Plenty of options available though, but a few people have spent a day with a pro at somewhere like Millbrook (cost a few hundred quid) and said it was astonishing.
4. Dunno - suspect the handbrake needs adjustment but the rattles should be treaceable...

Great car, sounds fantastic, few points;

If it uses the Old, stronger 993GT2 gearbox ( like the GT3 dose ) then YES.

on both accounts So dose the GT3, however its a pay off for the handling & weight..!!

True, but it all depends on what you want from a car, fyr my GT3 now makes 400bhp with the new Supersprint exhaust added, and has good even power delivery all the way through to 7,000+ rpm

From the spirit of your post I am guessing you’re getting this reaction from the WAY you are driving rather than WHAT you are driving ? Hope you are not throwing out the rule book on road craft, judgement and courtesy because the danger of making yourself look like a stereo type is very real in a Porsche.
a few minor rattles are creaks are pretty normal, certainly my 996TT does it.

No-one has given me any Wa**er signs in my 996 TT. Sometimes I have trouble pulling out of junctions but some people make an effort to let me out.
Gearbox is a little notchy but nothing unusual(even more with the short shift but I like the positive feeling) trim rattles are a pain, I wish I could get rid of them, strange thing is they are intermittent.

Picked up my 996tt in basalt black on saturday,cant say i've had any wa***r hand signals but did have a very close shave when overtaking 3 cars,long straight,great visibilty.perfectly executed manoevre and then the middle car of the three decided to overtake when i was just coming along side her!!!!missed the back end of my car by about 2 inches whatever happened to mirror signal manoevre....stupid c*w

Having given the bank account a good battering with my recent car purchase, I do what any sensible Pher does..........spend some more on some mods. Now my car has a whole host of goodies fitted by its previous owner. My turbo in my opinion sounds too quiet, not too sure if you agree or not, but I like my cars to have a bit more of a boom when I drive - just what turns me on (as well as ladies underwear but lets not go down that route....) I have ordered a Tubi Style exhaust system from Scuderia Systems. Can't wait.
In response to my earlier thread - Cyrus - I am not an aggressive driver far from it. There is a time and place for opening the car up, and all I can do is hopefully just choose those right occasisons. If someone else is driving like a complete di*k ( unless obvioulsly they drive like that all the time) just because of the car I have, how can I help that ? All I can say in my short experience of Porsche ownership, other people are really pis*ing me off - this never happened before.
For example - I'm driving sensibly around the speed limit on a single carriageway, a VW Beattle is sniffing the arse of my car - to the point I could see the puss points of his spots, on his ugly chav face in my rear view mirror, then the pr*t horns, overtakes me unsafely so I have to brake harshly, I flash my lights and he gives me the tosser sign - now whats all that about??
Anyway on a more positive note - I have to say what a nice feeling to come home from a crap day at work to see your pride and joy in the driveway ......well guys I am off for a Hoooooooooooooon!!!
