gt3 clutch question

hey all looking at an 04 gt3 with 6k road miles and have a quick question.....the clutch is heavier than my 02 996tt was....not massively so but def noticable....is this normal?? have heard the turbo clutch is assisted and maybe thats the explaination but dont want to buy it and get hit with a clutch bill next month!!!

Cluth and drivetrain is very strong on the GT3...you don't burnout a clutch in 6k miles in normal use.

Replacement clutch will cost around £1200 fitted from a specialist (JZM for example) - bit more from an OPC I expect.

If you are in any doubt get it checked out by someone experienced before purchase. Also make certain you get a Porsche warranty. It costs about £700 for 12 months cover. Bearing in mind that a GT3 engine is rumoured to cost £30K+ it's a complete no brainer to purchase the warranty.

Although GT3 clutches can feel fairly heavy from new (compared to other cars) and it can be very difficult to tell how much life is left. From my experience a GT3 clutch should last a minimum of 25-30K unless abused, and the best way to tell is simple feel - test for slip, is the pedal travel even and bite good but smooth etc?

A clutch on a comfort/mk2 should cost about £800 to replace and on a mk1 clubsport or RS will cost around £1200.

I would say at 6K miles you should be fairly sure the clutch will last a while yet - unless the previous owner was a 1/4 miler. In my experience it is the heaviest clutch in the 996 range.

To my knowledge the best way to test for slip is drop into 5th gear at about 30mph and then floor the throttle - if you hear/feel the revs rise faster than necessary then you have slip.

GT3 clutches always feel somewhaheavier than a standard 996 - it's by no means a sign that it needs replacing.

thanks guys.....ment to be collecting her this morning so i'll try the 30mph drop thing and if it is slipping i'll enter into some re negotiations.....sounds like it will be ok tho!!
