Squeeking noise on a 996

Guys,

mate of mine has a carrera 2 996. It has started to squeal as if the fanbelt is slipping. We have checked this and its not the problem. Also, recently, the battery was dead. So he replaced it for a new one but it seems when starting to be very sluggish.
Now could it be the starter motor sticking. if so how accessible is the starter motor. Can it be accessed by going through the passenger compartment or is it an engine out job.

Anyone got any ideas?

you can replace the starter through the inlet manifolds but its a damm crap job....you cant get to anything through from inside car....is it still squeeling if so have you checked all pulleys are free ... ?

Alternator has not seized has it ?

as above post said,remove centre section of inlet manifold and there's the starter,common thing for them to squeak.
