Now the new GT3 has been launched, and many depositors presumably went to the Thruxton event at the weekend, what is the collective view on the optimum spec?

i.e:
- 'Must Haves'
- Nice but not essential
- No way (ie white wheels and imitation carbon)

A little bird tells me you went on Sunday?
What did you think??

Road car daily driver for me.....

SPEC:
Cobalt Blue - (want silver really!!)
Bi-Xenon - for night flying
Cruise - for the cameras
leather interior package - as recommended!
Porsche crest on seats - nice touch.
PCM - well it only adds 500 grammes!!
Telephone - may as well with PCM in!
Sound pack - for when I'm not revving it!

Other thoughts.............
PCCB's- too expensive, still a few issues... but tempting for ride improvement!
Buckets - great for track, but not best for a daily & £3k eeek!!!
No lairy colours, want it for me & driving not to show off to others.
Tempted by tyre pressure, but have lived without one so far.....!
Would have had adaptive sports seats, but no memory & lots of extra weight!

It was suggested to me that anything that reduces weight is a good idea and not adding weight is therefore a good idea as well. This includes the Clubsport pack/Roll Cage which adds 20Kg.

I'm surprised that the PCM only adds 500g as I'd have thought the DVD drive was at least that.

The bucket seats are a good idea as they reduce the weight and also add considerably to the "sense of occasion" imho.

I'd rather put a TomTom in than have PCM for the occasions when I really need the nav.

Grant, Yes, I popped in for lunch on Sunday. I was smitten once I'd seen the car in Geneva.

Your spec is right for a mainly road car, although I would add the heated seats.

Still considering my spec, hence the question, but my OPC wants to know in the next week or so

I'll definitely go for PCCBs.

Biggest dilemma is PCM. It's not the cost, I just don't like it. My wife has it on her 987S and I think it looks cheap and it's too fiddly. I much prefer the simplification of the standard system, with a portable/updatable sat nav and bluetooth phone.

Do you think it will effect the resale not having the bucket seats ?

Blimey I didn't know that the roll cage added 20kg back in! Having said this I do think the weight thing isn't that much of an issue, ok reducing unsprung weight gives BIG benefits, but 20kg, what about the difference in the weight of each driver & passenger?

Perhaps we could launch a new product to the market......THE GT3 DIET........loose weight & go faster!!!

You're suggesting that the cage weighs 20kg?!

Whilst on the topic of GT3 weight - any idea how much the following options add? I really want them all, but I am concious of weight... So hoping it won't affect performance too much.

Roll Cage: 20 kg seems a bit on the high side for some hollow bars? If this is true than a Club Sport GT3 with CF buckets weighs the same as a standard GT3...

Full Leather Interior: Marginal or 3-4 kg?

Sound Package Plus: 9 speakers and amplifier in luggage compartment. 5 kg? Less?

Guys, why worry about 20kg here and there....will you really notice that much difference the way you intend to use the car?....It has double cupholders for a start

If you are that concerned about weight maybe it's worth considering a 997 cup car instead?

Not worried about weight saving - I only weigh 11 stone anyway. Going for Red (with black wheel centres), Clubsport Pack, Buckets, PCM, Bi-Zenons, Leather Dash etc.

Hadn't realised that price of car includes driving course at Millbrook, which is a bonus.

A few years ago I was speccing an Audi Avant as a daily-school-run-mobile and the price list had the weight penalty of each option next to the price.

I thought this was brilliant because it was amazing how much weight accumulated when you started ticking the option boxes. Unfortunately I don't think too many manufacturers have followed this example - presumably because it may discourage customers from adding highly profitable options.

Just noticed that the GT3RS launch pictures show the non-leather interior.

Certainly, from the photos, the dash looks ok for a functional performance car - IMO better than the fussy stitching on the leather dash.

Thanks for that Geneve, looks better than I thought, but still think the £1600 for full leather is (unfortunately !) a "need to" decision when every other UK 997 has it as standard!

Went to my OPC today to check out a few of the options and colours, as they are pushing me for my spec.

Saw some more pics of the non-leather dash/doors on the RS, and had a look at the non-leather interior on the latest Boxster.

The cost wasn't the issue - I actually much preferred the look and feel of the standard finish. Found the leather unneccessary and the stitching too fussy.

Completely agree - I'm goimg for Clubsport and the leather/stitching on Clubsport car at Thruxton looked fussy and out of place.

A question that my OPC couldn't answer when I raised it:

On the 997 GT3, are the vent surrounds and the trim rail for the cup holders 'black', as shown in the hardback brochure, or silver (like the 997/997S) as seems be shown on the RS and some road test cars?

Black looks much better, but is it standard?

I wish I could go with the same decision, it would save £1600, but I don't think Porsche do the plastic thing very well, it seems to work ok in BMWs etc, but not Pork.
The leather is on the doors, dash, glovebox, a pillars, rear panels etc etc, two seperate OPC guys warned against the standard car, I suppose they are going to say that, but their point was some early official 997's came without the full leather & neither thought it was right for a £60k car let alone a £80 k car!
But if you guys are happy with it, I'm happy for your wallets, although club sport packs & PCCB's add up!
Pugsey, did I see you have an AMV8? How have you found it & what colour & spec is it?
