Keyring battery replacement (996)

Quick question - have to be stood right next to the car to get it to respond to the keyring - guessing the battery needs replacing? I presume the keyring opens up and there's a watch-style battery in there to replace?

Careful on this one mate. Call a specialist to check or maybe some other kind Porsche PH'er can correct.

My keyfob did the same, I replaced the battery and that was that. No longer recognised by my car! Apparently, resets itself for security reasons. Pain in the arse.

Easy job, takes about two minutes.

If the range is still rubbish after you change the battery, do the keyfob range mod. I did both last week

Er, thanks for that! I'm taking the car in for a new tie rod this week so will ask when I'm in.

Easy fix. You open op the thing and replace the flat battery. Closing it is a bit more delicate as you have to place the internal bit with the battery into three plastic hooks in the lower shell of the key fob. Once it is "clicked" into place you put the rubber seal in place and press the upper part on. If you don't fix the interior bit to the lower part first the two halves will not fit properly.
