here are pics of my ceramics that have done 17k and no track use at all... porsche today said that they would not cover them...meant to last 300,000 miles my arse... quote" designed to cope with extreme conditions on road and track" in the brochure...."withstand 1700 degrees"...
i am very disapointed with them today to tell me that they failed due to overheating... how do you over heat them if they are meant to cope with 1700 degrees on the track... i dont know...??
I am a big porsche fan with a 997 s and a boxsters s and a cayenne in the family and maybe a gt3 on the way and i have never once asked porsche for anything before... think my 997 gt3 is not being ordered now... how can they tell me at 17k that its my fault.. its a faulty product as you fellow pistonheaders all know...!! strangely porsche replaced them on a lot of cars on here....only bought the car 5 months ago off a opc... very pissed off...racked up 400 euro in rent a car already while car sits up on the ramp....this surely is not the way to treat a good customer... ???

That is pretty disgraceful. When the ceramics were launched they justified the silly price by saying you only needed to replace them every millenium and that they were motorsport-tastic. They are nice and light, but steel seems so much wiser. Being a good customer you'd have thought that Porsche would throw some steels on for you, at least.

They are rubbish at denying anything is wrong until management give them the nod to say there's a problem. They would make engines out of chocolate and deny a design fault until one day - bang - 'we were wrong all along, have a new engine, Sir'. Maybe it's a legal thing but it still sucks like a Sebo.

But assuming you haven't personally done the whole 17,000 miles how do you know it hasn't been tracked ?

Either way Porsche should stump up for what is clearly a problem part.

Others had a serious fight too. They used the original brochure (scan can be found on S9s) that mentioned the 300k miles etc as leverage. Good luck though, they are giving me the finger about my alloys, and I've boxed the ceramics and thats where they will stay. Your ceramics are definitely trashed.

cheers lads...really pissed off today.. think i need to have a chat with someone other than customer service... forgot to meantion that i put on a new set of pads two weeks ago and they lasted 15 miles on the car at another cost of 360 euro due to the surface of the disc... thinking of putting on a set of front secondhand steels that a mate has tomorrow and driving the car back to opc were i bought it.... rent a car is killing me as well as the car being out of action for the last two weeks... 17k miles bit of a joke really... 6k miles since i bought car... that classifies as a unfit car to sell in my opinion.. maybe should think about refund....!!!

Did you buy it from an OPC. If so my tack would be to say that you bought through an OPC to avoid risks such as this, and since you haven't driven it on track you shouldn't be suffering the consequences of what the previous owner may or may not have done. Otherwise why bother with an OPC.

Not that its doing me any good, and I tried to bypass customer service sending 2 letters to the MDs house. He's just ignored then. Clearly a man who cares a lot about customers...

I agree with Dan and I also know of a number of people who have had ceramics replaced "ONCE ONLY AS A GOODWILL GESTURE" after a lot of pushing and threats of legal action. You might get them replaced once but my tip is to do what Dan has done and put the new ones in a box and put steels on the car.

Dan, whats the exact problem with your wheels? Is the paint finish flaking off?

Have you tried the "7 days to rectify before starting proceedings at small claims court" letter with the MD? (cost of a new set of wheels.) This generally ALWAYS works as it will cost them money either way. At the moment they don't incur costs chucking your letters in the shreader.

legal action.. now that might be interesting.... not the road i want to take but you never know... your right about the opc.. people pay premiums for cars for security when stuff like this happens... i will get on to opc tomorrow as i could not get the guy i bought the car off today... its not just the money of replacing im annoyyed about its there crap explanation of overheating them.. its a gt2 designed for performance driving on track and road...also if some people got them replaced so should i... think i need to kick up more fuss....

I guess you are quite heavy on the brakes? One thing I found out when researching this problem is thatthe PCCB give no indication that their design limits are being exceeded. They perform much better than steels at high temps - so don't tell you that you are pushing the brakes beyond desing limits. In steels, you'd get fade which gives you the hint to cool the brakes a bit. With PCCB's htey just keep on going until they're knackered.

Good luck - Sale of Goods Act may be your only help in htis case.

I had a punch up with my local OPC over GT2 steel brakes. I took the car in after 1 week of ownership because the brakes were resonating... only to be told by their 'expert' that 'they all do that sir'. Took it back after 3 months, still unsure, and they told me that the disks were fk. The service guy acknowledge that it was for the same reasons that I took it in for in the 1st instance, but because it wasn't covered under warranty, it would come out of the sales budget. The salesman told me I'd been driving it too hard (GT2, on the road - yeah right... ) I got a little verbal (ie; told him exactly what I thought, with the threat of adverse press) and 'hey presto' got my new brakes fitted. I still wrote to GTPP tho', and got my letter published - they were a bit pissed off at that...... they actually cancelled my 997 order

Who put the new pads in? You or the OPC? What pads were they?

put in the porsche approved padig pads.....started grinding from the start when fitted....there was a lot of brake dust which was unusual as the ceramics dont give off as much brake dust... the front discs are like sand paper....just want the matter sorted out and my car back....

In that case, how can you be sure that the problem was caused by the discs and not the pads?

Porsche are a very aggressive firm commercially speaking.

Obviously they don't want to pick up the bill and are working all the angles to avoid it.

Don't take it personally - it's just business. Play by their rules.

Call the OPC dealer principal. Make it crystal clear to him in a polite and friendly manner that you will not concede.

Ask for his help in finding a solution because you don't want to fall out with your favourite dealer and really would much rather avoid small claims court. Be charming and not aggressive.

If they don't respond within 7 days go legal. They will cave in immediately because it will be cheaper to settle your claim than defend it. Hopefully it won't come to that.
