hi guys..
in the market for a 998 around a 99 plate
i have a nissan 350 i want to trade in...

anyway what id like to know is..
do all the 996's have a 3.4? and 300bhp?
do they all have that awful ruffled leather?
what is this opc thing i keep hearing about?
i think id prefer a c2 but is the c4 a real contender?

i know these have probably been asked loads of times! please bear with me this will hopefully be my first 911!

The facelift models have a 3.6, you can tell these by the round bottom on the headlights (and the price). 99 will be a 3.4.
Very few seem to have ruffled leather, was sought after when I was looking as it's a thicker leather.
OPC means Official Porsche Centre.
I prefer the C2, in my opinion it doesn't need 4WD, car 'feels' lighter and there's more boot space. Comes down to personal choice.

does that have a higher bhp?
what stats does the 3.4 have?

oh and what major services etc should i be looking out for?

Spend a few weeks reading about the cars and go see as many as you can. You will probably find that there is very little 'real world' difference between the 3.4 and the 3.6 - though the facelift versio nalso have areodynamic and chassis stiffness improvements.

erm, from my research.

From 97-01 the 996 had the 300bhp 3.4

the facelight was at the end of 01, and that got a 3.6 and 320bhp, but also went up in weight. The performance figures for the facelift put it 0.2 secs faster to 60, and about 8mph on the top end.


As has been said, the C4 is heavier, and has half the boot space, depends on whether you want 4wd or not. Might not seem relavent now, but in January on an icey hill... well personal choice... I found the C4 was more twitchy at the front end than a C2
