OPC Warrenty - Yet again!!!
Discussion
Before buying my first GT3, and on everyones advice within this forum, I took the car to OPC in Swindon. They carried out the 111 point check and the car sailed through with flying colours. On the back of this Porsche issued full warrenty (£725.00). The End! .....or not in this case.
Today, I have, on the hottest day of the year, no airconditioning!! I ring Swindon and Reading and the prognosis varies from topping up the gas to new "O" rings. Virtually none of which is warrentied. I've owned the car 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Shoulp Porsche put their hands up and say-:
1. We checked it, missed that one so its on us?
2. In the spirit of you coughing up the money and in light of the fact it was supposed to be working 3 weeks ago - it's on us.
3. We've got your money - Sod Off!!
Is this warrenty worthless or are they just mean spirited??

You say everyones advice was to have a warranty...not mine..the warranties are a waste of money as i have said regularly on this forum..buy privately and save the initial 10% minimum dealer mark-up on the car price and use that money for any repairs that may need to be done, the dealers are in the business to make money not keep people happy with their cars. When i got puffed into a warranty a few years back and claimed i got told to sod-off as well ,lesson learnedToday, I have, on the hottest day of the year, no airconditioning!! Within 3 weeks do you not have some statutary rights with regards to second hand cars purchased from a dealer? You'll have to do some digging on the net, but I think the dealer may be responsible regardless of the warranty. That's why I never did understand 911 virgins millenium bug price - I don't think you can wriggle out of this legislation just by charging less.
Go back to the people you bought the car off and get them to fix it if you`ve only had it 3 weeks.
Ultimately all the inspection was for was so that Porsche were happy to offer a warranty on the car, components not covered on the warranty will not necessarily be picked up or commented on. Similarly if something is worn and wear & tear is not covered on the warranty then Porsche will be happy to put a warranty on the car given the wear is not covered and so not their problem.
A final thought what if there was a leak from a condensor, the most likely cause of the problem, and the system was re-gassed by the vendor just before it`s sale / inspection. All was well on the day but 3 weeks down the line it isn`t working.
These inspections / warranties are not the last word in security for the buyer. That comes from buying off an established vendor who is happy to stand by their product. Ultimately I`m biased because I do it for a living but if someone wants their hand holding through and after the buying process I can see no other way.

He says he got the 111 point check done at the dealer but doesn't say if he bought it there?
I suspect that if the car was bought elsewhere, that is why they are fighting it... Otherwise as Dan says, you should be getting it done FOC at three weeks!

Doesn't matter, if it was bought from a trader he should still have some come back and could quite rightly expect the leak or whatever to be cured.

cool down mate, clearly you are getting all hot under the coller............ put your air con on and chill - oooopps that the problem
you appear to be getting cross with porsche for a non warrenty item? when it should be the selller of the car.
...I have the Extended Warranty on my 996 and the A/c failed twice (in two different warranty years).
The first time it wasn't covered, as the leak was due to stone damage in the condensors. The second time (few weeks ago), the leak was due to some other problem in the condensors and WAS covered. Fixed FOC - got a Boxster loan car for a couple of days too.
You need to establish the cause of the problem.

whilst not wishing to defend OPCs, they are not responsible for global warming, world terror or non-warrantied items. you have demonstrated enough Darwinian advantage to generate the funds to purchase a GT3. you should therefore have had the wherewithall to have requested a warranty booklet telling you what is covered and to have read it. If its nonwarranty then the OPC is not liable to fix it at their cost. if you bought privately, or from an Indie, then you saved a whole wedge of main-dealer mark-up which can use fixing your car. had you bought it from the OPC they would have fixed FOC but then you'd have paid £5k more in the first place. if you bought from an Indie its their problem. if you bought privately then its caveat emptor
furthermore asking them to diagnose the problem and pledge that it's covered under warranty over the phone is just silly

Exactly, if this is a non-warranty item his claim is (as softinthehead rightly points out) against the seller of the vehicle with whom he had the sale and purchase contract. It's nothing to do with Porsche, frankly, if the warranty doesn't cover it, and if I was them I would be telling him to sort it out with the guy he bought it from as well.
Wot softy sed....you saved some money buying a non-OPC car and that brought with it a higher risk profile. You can't then expect any OPC goodwill repairs after you effectively decided to buy somewhere else and save a few quid.

Henry I'm glad to hear you say that....I tried the A/C on my car for the first time recently, given the hot weather, and it does not work! When can I bring it in to have a look?
I had exactly this on my 996 exactly thi time last year.
It had a leaky condensor. I'll wager that's exactly what's wrong with your. The bottom inner corner will have corroded. You may even be able to see / feel some thin oil behind one of the front wheels underneath.
I bought from Cridfords - who paid out no problme and I had 2 new condensors and a regas on them - even though I had also got a porsche warranty and they refused to pay.
I suspect this is all down to where you bought the car - was it a dealer or private?

We are a rather unique case and we have had frank discusions with trading standards (at our invitation) to make sure we are doing nothing wrong. We offer every car at a retail price should someone want it. If their brake pads wear down during the warranty perior that`s our problem because they should have been picked up on during the full service the car underwent prior to collection - we won`t hide behind wear and tear. At the other end of the scale a more independent buyer can, if they wish, pay less money and take the car as is. A bit like a private sale but with more security. There is a third way but let`s not complicate things here !
We recommend all cars are sold serviced and with us holding the buyers hand, but why should someone who is prepared to shoulder the risk not be able to save money and buy a cheaper car. What we could not do is say all our cars are sold as seen. The key is we offer the full retail package on every car and many cars go out like that. We also police our "bug price" and "bug price plus service at cost" methods of sale to make sure no one is disadvantaged. We are unique in our way of selling cars, a few people have copied us but I`m not sure if they police themselves properly or fully understand that it`s there for the customer`s benefit rather than the dealer`s

Providing the car was bought at our retail price, is still in warranty period and was a car we didn`t tell you to assume the a/c wasn`t working, when ever you want.
Our general stand on a/c at the moment is that on 966`s (where factory fitted) we treat a/c as part of the retail sale package. With earlier cars where we are not charging any more for the car because it`s fitted with a/c we would exclude that from the retail gurantee but report back to the customer on it`s function. With your turbo 4 we would honour a/c at the retail price.

Your redress is with the trader you bought the car from, they are obliged to fix faults for 90 days. If you bought privately then this is an obvious risk, offset by the saving made.
The OPC simply carried out a check of the car and sold on the Porsche warranty. I dont see why this would make them responsible for any non warrantied fault on the car which subsequently occurs.
