The GT3 / GT2 and TT all use a modified (detuned) version of the GT1 engine... They don't suffer from RMS problems.

All the above cars use a 964 derived crank case so they don’t suffer the same probs as the later designed 986 (boxster ) & 996 cases & cranks,
i.e. they use the earlier designed conventional rotary seal not the hard plastic thing!!

As above, it's based on the GT1/964/993 block. They do go, but very infrequently compared to 996/997/Boxster.

also I have read of RMS going on 997 also so may not just be 986/996

- ok I can't say that they don't suffer at all & I suppose I should answer the original question. I have been a regular part of the Titanic GT3 community for around two years and I have never heard of an RMS failure on a GT3... This is the first one! So yeah, I can believe your techies comments.

I have a Mk2 GT3 and when I bought it, I requested and received a full print out of all work done on the car since new by OPcs. There was an RMS listed at about the 2000 mile mark.

It has an engine, engines have seals, seals do wear out.

Rennlist users have posted failures, but very few, about the same as 993, 964 etc. etc. ie. very rare.

Now my lambretta (circa 1967) used more crankcase seals in a year than a bad 996 will suffer in its lifetime. Mind you it was a two stroke and did have an increased crankcase pressure with plugged web amongst other things to get more oomph!

If I may interpret loosely ... RMS is passe .. ALL cars suffer from it to a greater or lesser degree (mines clean , my friends 993 is leaky)..

Don't sweat the small stuff .. Rms is minuscule .. be it 993 996 gt3

Unless you have to pay for it yourself ( continually ) 'cause the car is over 10 years old!!

I think technology eventually catches up with frailty Paul ..
I'd be interested to hear if anyone's had their seal replaced with the 997 variant , using the correct tool that pushes it in further , and has since had RMS syndrome.....

Yes.

Mine RMS failed on my GT3RS.

The front seal also failed.

Both replaced and no further signs of leakage, work was carried out during Feb 06.
