As an outsider (ie. doesn't apply to me) I see there is a recurring theme of people unhappy with the car or unhappy with warranty exclusions and quoting that it passed this "111 point check".

What is this check - is it just for Porsche to agree to warranty it (ie. so those 111 points are pretty much the included items in the warranty) or is it supposed to give the car a very thorough thumbs up?

Seems to me that it only really gives a thumbs up to the included warranty items and some lip service to other bits (ie. brake pads are alright).

Commercially, I see where this stands. It sounds like a reasurring line to assist a sale without committing to too much. Even though there seems to be a call for it, if OPCs also offered (eg.) 211 point check which would additionally look at the items that are not covered by warranty then customers would insist on that before purchase... so it doesn't exist.

Just some thoughts!

At the end of the day, it's the usual story here. People will generally post (about the warranty in this case) if they have had a bad experience. Many have had claims without issue but won't bother saying so here because they have moved on and forgotten about it.

My understanding is that's it is a check to see if the car is in a suitable condtion for the warranty to apply.

It is not a pre-purschase inspection, and I wouldn't use it as such.

If one's manufacture 2 Yr warranty is near its end, what is the process for buying the renewal £725 12 month warranty ? Does one have to go thru buying the 111 point check in that case to qualify for warranty purchase?

As you say, the check is primarily aimed at putting the car under warranty but it proved a useful bargaining tool with my purchase and highlighted other (non warranty) issues I wouldn't have spotted otherwise. They did miss one I feel they should have picked up on but ultimately it's a wheels-on cosmetic inspection so there are obviously limits to what it will show up. I had no joy getting them to recognise the fault after collection either - it was obviously a 'new' fault!

If the existing 2 yr warranty has not expired, you simply pay the £725 - no inspection needed. Same for any renewals thereafter If you renew a couple of weeks before the current one expires, you won't lose the two weeks in overlap. The new warranty will start from the date the old one expires.

The 111 point check can be great value however it is only necessary if you are buying outside of the OPC network or the car is out of warentee or outside compliance service wise. The key is to develope a relationship with your OPC and get the direct feedback from the tech good or bad. Most of the owned network(Reading,Hatfield,Chiswick & Guildford) now grant you acces to a tech 5 1/2 days a week so you can ask any questions and get a real answer.
If you have just bought a car and the OPC is doing a full service then the 111 point comes out a lot cheeper!
No price is ever fixed!

I had a 111 point check done on the car I am buying last week and they came back with an inspection report with many details on it which are NOT part of the warranty. The mechanic foreman advised me that it is basically a report on what they would need to do if they were putting it on their forecourt.

There were about 20 items mentioned and only 1 (RMS!!) would stop them putting the warranty on the car. Some of the things they brought up were crazy (e.g. worn vanity mirror) but it certainly made me feel better about buying it as they seem to have gone over it with a fine tooth comb !

Also it helped me a lot with getting the price down.

Can anyone email/or post me a copy of a 111 point Porsche check as i have been sent a document by an independant dealer which looks like an additional work costing sheet not the full report. I have been burnt before and need as much info as possible before sending a holding deposit.

Might just be paranoid, but they ARE out to get me.............................

""Bump this oll thread up""

My 991 GT3 is having this 111 check and, yes, its to renew the extra year warranty they gave me as a gesture for the delay in the delivery of it to me a few year back. Seems a mega thorough check too....

checks really nothing. battery, lights , tyres, very basic checks.

I have had cars with non working AC and Chinese rear £10 pads fitted both cars were OPC cars.

They love the battery and N spec section the most.

had my 991 GT3 done last week;

I also had a full set of tyres - the NSF&R had nails in them - I knew about that before though smile

The 111 point check was described by the OPC as 'a pretty thorough check'
I have no idea whether or not thats true !
It does however, enable the warranty to be renewed, which given the tech on the 991 I think is pretty much mandatory.
Also got the assistance bit on as well - always been very impressed with their service (I know it's only AA, but it's been spot on for me)
Take the tyres for example; when booking in the car for its 111 point check, told them about the nails, and was advised not to drive and call assistance. 2 Hours later, I'd got a reasonable hire car on my drive, and the GT3 in a covered trailer / lorry on its way to the OPC.

I've also availed myself of this service when I was several hundred miles from home with a piece of metal stuck in a tyre - same level of service.

you pays yer money...

Hi red,

When they took your GT3 to the OPC was you allowed to choose which OPC, or is it taken to the nearest one.?.

They should give you a copy of the report.
