Manu at Scuderia systems might be worth talking to about exhausts. I emailed him, but he said its easier to discuss the options on the phone. I then forgot to call him back - Probably all too loud for reliably getting on all trackdays anyway.

He runs a GT3 RS and had a GT3 so should know his stuff on this.

I'm thinking of a fruity exhaust for my GT3 too (when I get it!!)

I've heard good things about the Cargraphic (and Techart) number - but no idea what to expect it to sound like...

So, to add to and slightly hi-jack this post - Can anyone give an idea as to:

a) How much they are?

b) What they (or othere exhausts) sound like - i.e. bassy rumble rumble/ high pitched howl/ etc etc.. If possisble, please try and use terms other than `like the devil shouting` as i've not heard him recently so can't remember what he sounds like

c) What kind of performance gains you can expect to get from a GT3 with CUP filter and performance exhaust

Cheers,

C

vette78 - if you are going for power gains etc, I recommend talking to JZ Machtech or Parr Motorsport and getting one of their packages. They do bundles of exhaust, filter & remap (of course this will jeopardise your warranty if the OPC spot the remap). Only issue is getting on track with fruitier pipes.

Parr are apparently developing a solution with carbon rear bumpers, lightweight centre exit exhaust and a remap which sounds good, especially as it will remove lots of weight from the rear. The JZM option is designed by Manthey, who are recognised as one of, if not the best tuner of GT3s.

Europipe also make GT3 exhausts, but not heard one in the flesh. They have samples and noise levels on their website though.

The exhaust I really want is made by Kreissig. It’s a switchable one, so you can have it in straight through 'F1' mode which sounds amazing. Then you can quieten it down with a button press, although I'm not sure if this is quiet enough for unrestricted access to track days. The real problem however, is the price. It's ridiculous (7k or something!).

Anyway the noise thing is why I've not made any changes.

It's permanently on (no switch).

If you are going to track the car or are looking for performance gains I'd be careful. In standard form you are just about OK, modified you will probably contravine noise regs at most tracks and performance gains are pretty minor with a low return on your investment. You may also have problems with your warrenty.

Thats ok then. They may go with a exhaust but for god's sake don't touch the ECU. They won't honour any warrenty if the engine's had a re map and 20bhp against a 40K GT3 engine aint worth the risk.

Got to say that some exhaust upgrades sound fantastic. My favourite are the Manthey and Parr systems.

It was also mentioned that Parr are looking into selling a supertrap with their exhaust to quieten it down for some tracks. Dunno any details though, and it was second hand info. Do you know anything about this Steve?

I think it's in development stages at the moment but I drove a 996RS with the ecu and twin centre exhaust fitted (without the supertrap)and it was very quick... and VERY noisy

Going off at a slight tangent but do I remember someone saying that the new GT3 is going to be too loud for trackdays? If so it will be the first time I've gone shopping for a quieter exhaust!

Yes it will be according to info from Porsche GB on saturday. They are feeing our concerns back to AG though.

Given that its an exhaust with multiple valves in it that are normally controlled by the ECU there may be the possibility of clipping things permanently into a quieter position etc. May not be good for power though, and who knows if it would be quiet enough.

It certainly explains why the journos have been saying why it sounded better than the 996!

Thanks for that - all good news then, until, that is, you want to head to the track!

i had a pair of fabspeed mufflers on my first 996 and they were superb, not too loud at a cruise but wailed when you opened the car up. beautifully made stainless steel and generously they come complete with ss end tips!!! which porsche charge a wedge for...

i had the switchable porsche one on my second 996 which was quieter with the main benefit being you could have it quiet or a bit noisy
