...was just ringing around for classic insurance on a Carrera 3.2 and am being told that this doesn't work for me because

a) the car would be parked in the street (resident parking area in South Ken), not in a locked garage

b) would be my only car, not a second car

c) would be my first car in the UK (moved here four years ago), therefore no no claims bonus

Anyone knows wheter that is the ultimate answer? Does that mean I have to go for a standard policy?

Any help appreciated!!

Sooooo.... get a cheap quote on a non-classic policy. People seem to like A-plan at the mo' and there's an insurance thread running. Can't be too much for a 3.2 as not hugely valuable.

As Dom says - A-plan are pretty good - I have just reinsured my 964 with them and they were very helpful/good value

other wise try elephant - was with them for a few years (old TVR parked in SW15 - so reasonably similar situation....)

IMHO you'd be lucky to get classic insurance on london street parking/only car

try Asset Trust - 01285 841 555 - they are good for classic insurance and will do it for an only car IF it is a London post code.

I used Asset Trust (proably after a recomendation from Tertius).

Found them helpful, easy to deal with, and best on price.

Their website is:

Just spoke to them, they're indeed very helpful, and did not object to "street parking" and "only car" - quoted me £511 which is quite good i think...

thanks guys!!

Yep Asset Trust seem to be the way forward for London classic policies. I pay a bit over £600 for a pretty modified 964 C2 parked on street in Holland Park through them. Previously I had been with Admiral (Elephant and Bell Direct are also owned by Admiral) on the 964 and my previous 3.2 Carrera. Asset Trust have proven to be considerably easier to deal with and also significantly cheaper (he says holding his breath awaiting his renewal notice next month !)

I reckon I must be due some sort of discount - number of times I've recommended them and they've come up trumps - they were cheapest for someone at work as well ...
