are there any tips for getting the most out of the tip box? i've noticed that with your foot down in manual, the gear change in the buttons is slower than if you kept it in Auto?

Anyone worked out a way?

And no, getting a manual isnt an answer....!!!

I think they're called handbooks.

I usualy lift off just a bit when changing up, I know it sounds silly but when I want to have fun I just slide the seat forword a notch or 2.
Now I would like to know how to get a flying start with a tip, is it just a case of putting it in M knocking it down to first then flooring it, or is there some way of reving with the brake on then letting all hell loose?

Ditto on the start - in manual, i feel like there is a delay, presumably as the tip box stops you wheel spinning

Have wondered what would happen if you revved with the brakes on in N, and then dropped it to drive.. Would rather someone else found out for me though!!!

As you're on the subject of tips, do you ever get the feeling that the auto clutch is slipping or is mine just knackered? Not sure if that is just how it is!

I was having those thoughts today to be honest - just too much of a lag in first to seem normal

Its going in for a service next week so will find a way of askign them without it costing me an arm and a leg!!

TADTS

I never use mine in D so all the following applies when driven in M. The sensation of slipping is the torque converter doing it's job. It's a fluid clutch and slips until it reaches a given RPM when you can feel it locking up and giving full drive. It's more noticeable if you are being lazy and pull off in second when you can really notice it. It's normal behaviour. Pulling away from the lights in a cloud of smoke is never going to happen in a tip

Now if I remember correctly there are five maps depending on how the car is being driven along with throttle position sensors. Mine only ever seems to use two maps that I can notice, economy mode or full chat. If you have enough space floor the car and hold it a couple of times in M and you'll really feel the characteristics change. The auto change up holds off right up to the red-line and the whole car becomes much more responsive. The steering change becomes much quicker too. If you want to avoid the auto change up going into a corner back off the throttle slightly and it holds on to the gear.

Just noticed that when stationary and in neutral, if rev the engine, it will bounce around the 4k mark, like it had redlined - if im moving and do this, it revs to the red line

Is this some built in safety feature? anyone else have this?!?!

Bermundy,
The TipS has a rev limiter in neutral. It will never let you rev up to more than around 4500 revs. If you take it to a track day you will discover, that you can actually not rev it up to the level at which the officials want to make their reading.

clorenzen - cheers for that..

May be taking it near a track on sunday if someone drops out of VMAX - but currently on standard exhaust so should be ok?

Interesting, they must have forgotten to fit it to mine... Just tried it (fully warmed up) and it'll rev to at least 6K in N or P. '99 996 C4 tipS cab.

Was that a tapped rev, or foot held down?

I think i can get past 4.5 if i push it down briefly, but it wont go past 4.5 if i keep my foot on it

A controlled throttle press, as opposed to a blip. My sense of preserving an expensive toy kicked in at 6K

Maybe i actually dont have a rev-limiter then... it could just be my leg shaking in fear seeing the revs go beyond 4k!!

Ive taken to coughing loudly when i start the engine - every single noise i hear i think is imminent doom otherwise
