Hi,

I've stripped out the rear seats, carpets, belts and wiper from my car - my question is will I need to fit the seats and belts back for it to pass an MOT ? It's pretty clear that carrying rear passengers is not an option to any tester but strictly following the rules - I'm sure it says 4 seats on the MOT cert ?! (996 btw)

Any opinions ?

Thanks,

Richard.

I would think that for the MOT on this car e.g. MOT type approved 4 seat car - You will needs 4 working seat belts.

I am not ceratin on this matter - no doubt someone will be along shortly to advise.

Good Luck.

If they came with seat belts, then they have to be fitted and working.

I know, I took out a failed one, hoping to avoid the belt failing the cars MOT and was told it needs to be fitted and working if it came that way.

ok thanks for your replies - I've still got them so it's not an issue putting them back if asked to, will have to wait and see. Cheers..

Well I have removed seats, back and squabs, seatbelts, the lot. Carpeted over, fitted roll cage and fixed back Recaro SPGs. According to V5 it's a four seat 964 C2, so in theory I have to refit the lot to pass a MOT ????? Well that may be the letter of the law, but what kind of tester is going to fail the car for that ? - the rear seats have clearly been put beyond use. Guess what - I had my MOT last month and it passed !

If only the two front seats are present at time of testing then the car is only allowed to have two occupants-put the seats back in and the car has no MOT and hence no insurance.

I don't actually know but I would have thought if there were no seats, you won't need seatbelts.

If the seats are there, you'll need the belts.

If you put them in for the test and then take them out afterwards, it will no longer have an MOT.

ok that's good to know - The car has 'nothing' in the back (totally stripped) so I hope they will see sense when it's MOT'd. I wonder what GT3/GT2's have on the logbook about the number of seats ? Anybody ?
