Chaps,
Two road test results from sport auto now on www.einszweidrei.de/

0-160kph in 8 or 8.2, pretty bloody fast, though not as quick as one of the GT2s they tested at 7.8.

The thing that impressed me was that the GT3 has faster acceleration times than the turbo - first time that's ever been the case for stock porkers.

With the 10 second overboost feature, I can't see how the GT3 is quicker than the turbo

I think he means 996TT, the new GT3 just shades it in the acceleration stakes!

Don't think that I do mean the 996 turbo - was referring to some interesting fact that read in a french porker mag - will dig it out later and check if it's just my memory that's gone.

Your memories gone if you did mean the 997TT!

Found the stat that I was after - previously posted on a thread about the new GT3.

"Was just reading a magazine article about the new GT3 over lunch. It does the standing start km in 21 seconds, nearly 2 seconds faster than the old model and 1/2 a second faster than the new turbo with manual box! Supposedly this is the first time that a normally aspirated porker is faster than the turbo model as standard."

OK, so the stat is limited to the standing start km, and I think that it was only true of the manual turbo, the tip version being capable of faster acceleration. Memory not completely gone, just a tad imprecise...

Hmmm, bring it down to VMAX and you'll see the TT waste the GT3 over the 1.5 mile run.

Sure, the GT3 will most likey be lighter, that is why getting off the mark, it would appear quicker over the first KM. But not the second.

Food for thought.

The 997 TT kicks the 997 GT3 in a straight line. Undebatable - in either manual or Tip guise.

That's not what the stopwatch says over a km, but as you wish.

Official Porsche GT3 figures:

0-62 4.3s
0-99 8.7s
50-75 6.2s (in 5th gear)

Official Porsche TT figures (Tip in brackets):

0-62 3.9s (3.7s)
0-99 8.4s (7.8s)
50-75 3.8s (3.5s)

The latter is WITHOUT using overboost - which makes it considerably faster.

Do those figures not say it all?!

OK so I was wrong. It seems that the 997GT3 does the standing Km faster than the 997 turbo in both the manual AND the tip version. Relative figures GT3 21 seconds, TT tip 21.1 seconds, TT manual 21.5 seconds. All much of a muchness, and no doubt the turbo would then romp ahead for a while. Same top speeds too, though the turbo is limited to 310 kph only because of the tyres.
