Just had my windscreen replaced, Autoglass asked if I wanted to pay or was I using my insurance. Fortunately as most insurance companies offer windscreen replacement for £50 excess without effecting your no claims bonus, clearly I just paid £50. I asked for the actual cost which my insurance company must pay and it came to £1,167! This may be one reason why my insurance renewal went up by 25%, I'm assuming the insurance companies are starting to relise that the cost of windscreen replacement can have a big impact on their costs.

Could be; but one of the reasons AG were 'approved' by your insurer is that AG have agreed to give the insurance company a massive discount - as well as standardised pricing. In doing so, AG still get to send the insurer billing statements for copius amounts of cash.

Are you pleased with the work?

I had replacement, I was told it was so expensive due to the antenna running through the window and the green tint it has!!!

You didn't expect any Porsche part to be cheap now did you?!

The colour, or transparency of the screen has little to do with the price; yes, the antenna is integral which has a bearing on price, but labour time is lengthy and will reflect in the final costing of the replacement.

Lol, didn't expect it to be that cost. I can see windscreen cover become a seperate package again, lol.

I got my windscreen replaced at an OPC in February for under £500..

Over a thousand smackers doesn't make sense , unless they're playing the '100% extra cos the insurance are paying' game.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I have only ever had to make 1 claim (on Alfa GTV) when someone nicked my alloys and scratched 2 of the rear panels in the process. Anyway, my insurance company got billed £1480 for the work by the local 'approved' repairer. If you break it down the wheels and tyres are trade were £500ish so simple maths means they charged £980 to polish out 2 scatches!!!!!!

All companies tend to charge inflated prices. I guess it improves their annual turn-over figures?

It will certainly be covered if it also has a chip in the drivers vision zone

Just for the record , I got the windscreen replacement price from the opc , then contacted my insurance to confirm that they'd cover cost of replacement.. It meant that I'd about a month to wait for the insurance cheque to come thru though...
It's also worth ringing a few different OPC's .. One quoted me £900 , their excuse being they had to get a third party to fit the screen.
