Hopefully not another problem.

Right, another problem with the Boxster.
Its a 55 plate Boxster S, 4000 miles on it.
Took it to LeMan the other week & the oil warning light came on. Low oil level. Not a problem, I filled it up BUT should I be worried that its done its oil in so quickly ?
Also, every time the car is started (well first time each day) it chucks out a blanket of smoke. I read that Porsche's do this, however doesn't seem right to me.
What do you lot reckon ? Problem or not.
This car is really p!ssing me off

My 996 is going in this morning to see if the smoke is an issue - at the moment, it only seems to do it when its been driven then left in the sun.. trust me to have a bloody tempremental princess for a car
Will let you know what they say
(alternatively, is it possible the car was over filled with oil - hence the smoke? Dont want to actually suggest this as a cause, slightly worried now after Henrys comments re. Internety forums!!)

a) a new engine will use more oil until it's properly bedded in.
b) a flat engine will collect oil in the heads, as opposed to a vertical engine where the oil drips back down to the sump, therefore
c) it's not unusual (cue Tom Jones) for a flat engine to puff on startup, but as long as it's just a puff and it doesn't continue for the next several seconds then it shouldn't be anything to worry about.
how much oil did you put in, and was that the first time you'd added in 4000 miles?

Chaps,
My 996 also blows out loads of smoke, but only after serious track activity. It clears after a mile or so. I think (hope) it is because it has been over filled as verified by the dipstick. My question is how/where can I drain some oil off?
As an aside it does not seem to have used one drop of oil in 5000 miles of relatively hard driving, this I presume is a good sign?
Any comments welcomed
thanks
Neil
