Hi,

I came down to Virginia Water briefly yesterday, just in time for the midday rev up. Really nice tribute.

Only had time for a quick wander round, as I was only supposed to be 'popping down the shops for some bread' Lunch was a bit overdone by the time I got home - lucky it wasn't in the dog.

Anyhow, I of course spotted two lovely 996's in the corner, one was a silver 996 Turbo, the other a black 996 Carrera with a 'Nurburgring' sticker on the back. Who do they belong to? I guessed the silver was Dazren's, but I'm not sure, and I don't know who the black one belongs to?

I've bought myself a 968 M030 Clubsport since asking for some advice here several months back, but I haven't been able to register it in the UK yet having bought it abroad, purely through lack of time. Been stored in the garage for the last few months. I'm intending to get it MOT'd and registered in Feb, so hope to bring it down to the next Sun meet at VW, which I understand may be 9th March.

The Ring is my favourite destination, so I was particularly interested to see the Ring sticker on the back of the black 996 - would have loved to have chatted, but the owners of both cars weren't around. Was the only Ring sticker I saw on the many cars I saw there on Sunday - unusual. But then again, most TVR owners probably don't reckon on their cars making it to the Ring, let alone driving around it

On another point, I seem to remember there's a Porsche meeting the first or second Tuesday of every month in Cobham. Does anyone here ever go to that?

Cheers,

SFV.

SFV, you obviously didn't look closely enough at the Turbo.... it also had a 'ring sticker (although it was discretely placed in the rear screen, rather than the red one on mine which is probably a bit tacky!!!)

I will definitely be going at some point this year... would be good to co-ordinate timing. C3 GTK, the 993 parked next to the two 996's, is also keen on a trip, as is Jason360.

Hi guys.

SFV - yes the turbo was mine. As Tony said there is a silver Ring outline on the rear window outside the sweep of the rear wiper in the drivers side top corner. Instead of "NURBURGRING" I have a pistonheads sticker in the centre of the outline. I did this on the basis those in the know will know what the outline means and those that don't can bugger off without presuming I'm some kind of lunatic Orificer!! I've read you've done a 8.45 in your previous car? I assume this is a BTG time? what vehicle? any mods? Oh congrats on finding your new motor with the M030 suspension.

Melv - I guess that was your white cup car at the meet? I pointed the car out to a mate of mine that the car had obviously been brought on a transporter as it was clean and had no number plates. I was a little surprised to see it edge around the corner as I left Manu and Ajays carpark (still clean somehow).

PS - Currently looking at doing a ring trip in late May, with track access on thursday evening, friday afternoon & evening, and all day saturday and sunday (leaving Nurburg at about 2.30pm sunday for me though so I can get home and get up for work on monday and be awake rather than sleepwalking.

Apologies for missing your ring sticker Daz - very discreet, unlike the car (& owner?)

In terms of a late May trip, looking at the opening times, I'd say the bank holiday weekend of 24/25th May could be ideal? And you wouldn't even have to get up for work on the Monday

It's open
Thurs 5.45pm - 7.30pm
Fri 2.15pm - 7.30pm
Sat 8am - 7.30pm
Sun 8am - 7.30pm
Mon - closed, but makes for a nice leisurely trip home.

The following weekend is the Ring 24hrs race so the circuit is closed for well over a week until 11 June. And the weekend before, the opening hours are less attractive, with Sat being closed until 5pm (which often means 5.30pm)

Anyone interested in coordinating a Porsche/PH trip across there on that May bank holiday weekend? My own preference would be to travel out on the Friday morning to arrive for lunchtime, and then return home on the Monday on an afternoon crossing.

Thats the weekend I was looking at, with the open times now the official website. For me this allows a big piss up without having to get up early on the friday and allows getting back to Bristol by late sunday. The return is important as it allows my younger brother to get to work on monday (working in retail everyone has to work on bankholidays even the directors lead by example).

It is tempting to tell him to drive back on his own and have another night on the piss though on sunday.

hmmmmm

PS - I've only done two trips so far, is the Nurburgring management likely to change the opening times or do you consider it safe to go ahead and book now?

As briefly discussed at VW Daz I'd love to do this one, I don't think the track wagon will even be near finished by then though unfortunatly.

However I might do my old favorite of nipping down to Hertz and hiring something for the weekend and returning the thing half dead....

Hi Daz,

In my experience, you're safe to go ahead and book now. I've never seen them change a full open weekend to something less, although they do tend to change some of the opening times during the weekdays as the season goes on when BMW/Mercedes/Audi/Porsche comes along wanting an extra afternoon's testing

I think last year they did maximum two updates to the opening times through the season, and none of those affected the weekend opening hours. Not that it's not worth keeping an eye just in case.

I can't get the Thurs 22nd off work, but don't have to work the Monday, but guess we could hook up at various points through the Fri/Sat/Sun for either laps or beers. Hope to meet you at some point before then

As things currently stand, that week-end sounds good to me. Need to clarify a few things over the next couple of weeks (like what car I'll have changed to by then). Will also find out if there's any interest from a couple of mates. When one of you guys know which hotel you're staying at, then let us have the details.

Seems like a pretty good pre-Le-Mans warm up.

As soon as I've confirmed anything I shall report back to the board.

DAZ

PS - SFV, how the hell can you not find the time to register your new car? I'd be going nuts? or can you drive it with foreign plates on? which on thinking would certainly have benefits in the Blairdom of the formerly Great Britain.

I've now got it booked into JZ Machtech on the 18th Feb to finally get it sorted out and MOT'd. It's been locked away in the garage for a wee while.

SFV.

btw, as well as doing the Ring on the 23/24/25 May, I'm about to book a full day at Spa on Mon 26th Shame to waste a day of the bank holiday weekend.

I spotted the screw holes where the road plate must have attached... Do I win a prize?
